USMCA Review Talks. President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed Mexico's commitment to the USMCA and confirmed that preparatory review talks with the United States and Canada are underway. The president noted that the majority of US companies support the continuation of the agreement.

"The majority of US companies are fully on board with the treaty because they have benefited from it, their workers have benefited, and we know that economic collaboration and integration serves us all very well," Sheinbaum said.

Kristi Noem's Removal as US Homeland Security Secretary. Sheinbaum said the country's security and migration cooperation with the United States has not been disrupted by the leadership change at the Department of Homeland Security. "We will continue working, there is good coordination both on migration between the US agency and the Mexican government, particularly with migration, and at the same time on all security matters, as well as our permanent insistence on the protection of Mexicans living in the United States."

Security for the 2026 World Cup. Minister of Security Omar García Harfuch unveiled Plan Kukulkán, a protection strategy that coordinates more than 20 federal agencies alongside state and municipal authorities across all Mexican host cities, incorporating cooperation mechanisms with the United States, Canada and FIFA on intelligence sharing, operational planning and real-time risk management.

General Román Villalvazo, Head, 2026 FIFA World Cup Coordination Center, announced the creation of three joint military task forces, one each for the host states of Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. These cities will be supplemented by seven units at alternate venues and three air defense formations, with the stated goal of presenting Mexico as a secure and dependable host to the international community.
