‘Wellness’ Gas Coming Soon/INE Criticized

Tokyo Olympics. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador wished Mexican athletes success at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which started on Friday. “Greetings to all athletes representing Mexico. Today, the Tokyo Olympics begin and we wish our representatives on this day, in these Olympics, that they do very well. We are with them; Mexico and its people support our athletes. Courage, we are going to do well.”

Wellness Gas. López Obrador said that the planned Gas Bienestar, or Wellness Gas, company will begin operating in about two months. “Gradually, the plan and the facilities are going to be expanded but the program has already been drawn up, we already have the land for the distribution centers, the cylinders are being acquired, the delivery vans, we are already making progress.” He added that the president of PEMEX will head the company. “We are going to have a meeting next week to evaluate how we are doing, to tell people that it is being evaluated. We started here in (Mexico City) because it is where there was a greater lack of control in terms of increases in the price of gas.”

Spy files. López Obrador commented again on the espionage allegedly carried out against him and other citizens by the previous presidential administration, saying he had not received any file on the spying that targeted him. “The only file that interested me that they had … is about my time as an initial opponent and they gave it to me from the National Archive. (...) I do have that file, not recent, they didn’t give me anything and I didn’t want to know. That is the truth and I imagine that they always followed us; they always spied on us.” Given the circumstances, the president is going to ask that all the files on the related espionage be made public. However, he cautioned that some might not be published for legal reasons.

INE and Electoral Tribunal.  The president criticized INE and the Electoral Tribunal, saying that they have shown that they are not authentic democrats, referring to the cancellation of MORENA’s candidacies in Guerrero and Michoacan, and also for the sanction carried out against Samuel García over the comments on his wife’s social networks. “It is the most normal thing for a sympathizer, more so if it is the wife, to speak well of her husband,” he said. “You have to see who is there maneuvering, that’s why you have to (replace) INE and the (Electoral Tribunal).”
