Western Hemisphere Integration/AMLO Attacks INE

López Obrador insists on the integration of the Western Hemisphere. After Alberto Fernández, President of Argentina, invited President López Obrador to visit his country and make an alliance between Brazil, México and Argentina, López Obrador supported the proposal and highlighted the necessity of having more Latin-American countries join such an alliance, in order to reach an integration similar to the EU.   

A union between North-, Central-, and South American countries would help fight inequality, would be commercially beneficial and help mitigate the issue of migration in the continent, said AMLO.

AMLO attacks INE. President López Obrador attacked the National Electoral Institute (INE) saying it is antidemocratic in regards to his mandate revocation. Last Thursday, the INE ordered the removal of billboards and propaganda promoting the revocation of the president. The material is considered illegal because it is not clear that it has the necessary add placing permits. It is unclear who paid for the billboards and who is responsible for their placement.

Councilwoman, Adriana Favela, expressed that it is necessary to find the responsible party that hired these services, because it could be illegal. The propaganda has various characteristics like the image of AMLO, the invitation to vote and the legend “AMLOStay” (QueSigaAMLO). The president considered INE´s actions as antidemocratic and for violating the Constitution, because according to the president INE´s authorities do not want people to know about the exercise of revocation in an effort to reduce voting participation and serving the interest of opposing parties.

On April 10the revocation voting consultation will take place.

Alejandro Mayorkas to visit México. President López Obrador announced that Alejandro Mayorkas, US Minister of Security of the US will be visiting Mexico. Topics such as immigration issues and its legal regulation implications will be discussed.

In 2021, Mayorkas visited Mexico three times, making this his fourth visit. in his twitter account announcing the visit he added that they will continue to strengthen the close partnership and working together on shared challenges and opportunities.  

International Airport Felipe Ángeles. President López Obrador assured the new Mexico City International Airport (AIFA)will be a leading world class airport. 

The Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Santa Lucia´s opening ceremony will take place on March 21 at 10 am. It is expected to have an initial capacity of 19.5 million passengers in its first stage of operations. Airlines like Aeroméxico, VivaAerobus and Volaris will fly from the new airport.
