CDMX Launches Wildlife Round-Up Campaign
Mexico City’s Environment Ministry (SEDEMA), the ProZoolgicos Trust, and Grupo Chedraui announced the launch of a round-up campaign across the 192 Chedraui stores located in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico to support wildlife conservation efforts.
The campaign will allow shoppers at Grupo Chedraui stores to voluntarily round up the total of their purchases at checkout. The funds collected will directly benefit wildlife conservation and strengthen the three Wildlife Conservation Centers managed by SEDEMA: Chapultepec, San Juan de Aragon, and Los Coyotes.
The ProZoologicos Trust, established a year ago, was created to bring together the public and private sectors in a joint effort to improve animal welfare and support the city’s conservation centers. The trust has become a key mechanism for funding and sustaining projects focused on conservation, research, environmental education, professional training, habitat rehabilitation, and care for animals under professional supervision.
The funds raised during the campaign will be allocated to the construction of a new Diagnostic Center, an expansion of the veterinary hospital at the Chapultepec Wildlife Conservation Center. The facility will improve specialized medical care for species under professional care. “This campaign, which begins Sept. 4 and runs through Nov. 5, is an easy way for residents to support wildlife without significant effort,” said Julia Álvarez, Minister, SEDEMA.
Alfredo Chedraui, representing Grupo Chedraui and serving as a member of the ProZoologicos Trust’s Technical Committee, expressed the company’s commitment to the initiative, stating that supporting conservation aligns with its corporate goals. Meanwhile, Diego Sánchez, President of the ProZoologicos Trust, also acknowledged the company’s role, noting that its participation strengthens the campaign’s reach and impact.
