The Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía awarded the 2026 ESR Distinction to 1,057 large companies across manufacturing, financial services, transportation, energy and other sectors, underscoring the growing integration of ESG and corporate social responsibility standards in Mexico’s business landscape. The voluntary certification — aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and recognized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development — requires documented compliance in governance, labor practices, community engagement and environmental management, reinforcing structured CSR benchmarking in an increasingly competitive and regulated market.

The Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI) announced on Feb. 25 the official results of the 2026 ESR Distinction, awarding the recognition to 1,057 large companies that met the organization’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) standards.
The ESR Distinction is granted annually to organizations that voluntarily undergo a structured evaluation process and demonstrate compliance with established CSR benchmarks. According to CEMEFI, companies must submit documentary evidence supporting their policies and performance across four pillars: ethics and corporate governance, quality of life within the company, community engagement, and environmental care and management.
The 2026 list includes companies from a wide range of economic sectors, including manufacturing, financial services, transportation, energy, wholesale trade and professional services. The sectoral diversity reflected in the results indicates that responsible business practices are increasingly being incorporated across different segments of the Mexican economy, from industrial operations to service-based activities.
Among the companies recognized this year were:
-
Accenture, a global consulting and professional services firm, recognized for its comprehensive sustainability programs.
-
ADO, a passenger ground transportation operator, recognized for its commitment to improvements in working conditions and community services.
-
Afore XXI Banorte, one of Mexico’s leading pension funds, was recognized for promoting ethical and inclusion-oriented practices.
-
ANA Compañía de Seguros, an insurance company, recognized for responsible management in the insurance sector.
-
Danfoss México, an industrial-sector multinational, recognized for its policies promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.
-
Cruz Azul, one of Mexico’s largest cement companies, recognized for its social impact initiatives.
-
CT International, a wholesaler, recognized for sustainable supply chain decisions and internal initiatives focused on professional development, inclusion and employee well-being.
-
The Integral Port Administration of Baja California Sur (APIBCS) recognized for implementing rigorous ESG standards in its port operations.
In addition to these firms, hundreds of companies from different regions of the country were included in the 2026 list. Recognized organizations operate in states including Mexico City, Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, Sonora, Michoacan, Baja California Sur and Guanajuato, reflecting broad nationwide participation.
CEMEFI stated that the annual renewal requirement for the ESR Distinction is intended to promote continuous improvement in corporate practices rather than one-time compliance. The organization noted that companies seeking renewal must update their documentation and demonstrate measurable progress in their social responsibility strategies.
CEMEFI and the ESR Distinction
CEMEFI was established in 1988 as a private, nonprofit organization with the mission of enabling, connecting and mobilizing a collaborative community of civil society organizations and companies to generate social value through philanthropy, corporate social responsibility and civic engagement.
Recognizing that corporate social responsibility can provide companies with a competitive advantage by integrating a comprehensive and sustainable vision into their corporate strategy, CEMEFI created the ESR Distinction in 2001 as a tool to encourage companies to implement social responsibility and sustainability initiatives that generate positive societal impact.
Since its launch in 2001, the ESR Distinction has evolved to reflect growing economic, social and environmental expectations placed on companies. As of 2023, the ESR Distinction model includes four criteria and nine focus areas aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As a result of more than 25 years of work promoting corporate social responsibility, CEMEFI has been incorporated into the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Responsible Business Conduct Committee. The OECD has recognized the ESR Distinction as a tool that fosters a culture of responsible business practices.
In 2026, CEMEFI also invited micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to participate in the ESR Distinction call, offering an opportunity to assess and benchmark the maturity of their CSR practices against peers within their industry.
