FAO, Pan-American Trails Sign LOI for LatAm Conservation

The FAO and the Pan-American Trails Network have signed a Letter of Intent to strengthen partnerships for environmental conservation, sustainable development, and community well-being across Latin America and the Caribbean.

As the technical secretariat of the Latin American Network for Technical Cooperation in National Parks, Other Protected Areas, Flora and Wildlife (RedParques), FAO coordinates key stakeholders to protect biodiversity, enhance rural livelihoods, and promote sustainable natural resource management. This agreement formally incorporates the Pan-American Trails Network as a strategic partner in these efforts.

Under the accord, both organizations will design and implement a strategy focused on training, knowledge exchange, and mutual capacity building. The initiative will address topics such as ecosystem services, biological connectivity, environmental education, and inclusive sustainable tourism.

These actions aim to restore essential ecological processes while creating jobs and improving the livelihoods of local communities. The alliance offers a comprehensive response in a region facing growing ecosystem pressures and social inequalities.
