La Paz Joins China Seminar on Low-Carbon Urban Transport

La Paz, Baja California Sur, participated in the “International Seminar on Low-Carbon Urban Transport,” held in China from Sep. 1-15. At the summit, city officials showcased local sustainable mobility initiatives and strengthened ties for future technical cooperation.

Roberto Izquierdo Soto, Director General of the Municipal Planning Institute (IMPLAN), represented La Paz at the forum organized by China’s Ministry of Transport through its Global Center for Innovation and Sustainable Transport (GSTIKC). Delegations from Latin American countries—including Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Panama, and Uruguay—also attended to share experiences on resilient urban mobility and emissions reduction strategies.

During the seminar, Izquierdo Soto highlighted ongoing actions in La Paz to reduce transport emissions through public policy and infrastructure projects. He participated in technical sessions on environmental financing, regulatory models, and local governance frameworks, emphasizing that lessons from China’s mobility innovations would help strengthen institutional and technical capacities at home. “This experience allows us to build institutional and technical strength and promote new cooperation channels and continuous training,” he said.

The event also offered opportunities to engage with Chinese authorities and explore partnerships. Izquierdo Soto held bilateral meetings with Chinese officials to discuss potential technical collaboration, infrastructure support, and knowledge exchange. The city also strengthened ties with the Chinese Consulate in Tijuana, facilitating future cooperation in urban planning and transport projects.
