Solar technology company LONGi has announced a partnership with Rafiqui, a Mexican non‑profit organization dedicated to recycling decommissioned photovoltaic (PV) modules. The partnership aims to establish the infrastructure needed to recycle end‑of‑life solar panels in Mexico. Current recycling options in the country are limited, presenting a growing  challenge for solar developers, operators, and installers.

LONGi describes the project as part of its “Solar for Solar” philosophy—an approach where solar energy drives sustainable solutions within the renewable energy industry. The company’s involvement is intended to support a viable, scalable alternative for responsible end-of-life panel management and to reduce environmental impacts in the photovoltaic sector.

The initiative builds on OECD certification milestones LONGi has achieved internationally. The company holds PV Cycle certification in various markets, including China, the United States, and parts of Europe. It recently supported the certification of Brazilian recycler SunR, the first of its kind in Latin America.

LONGi’s collaboration with Rafiqui also aligns with the company’s global sustainability targets outlined in its 2024 Sustainability Report. The report highlighted a 9.14% decrease in electricity consumption per unit, renewable energy use at 47.5%, a 24.8% reduction in water consumption per unit, and a non-hazardous waste recycling rate of 82.7%, surpassing its goal of 80%.
