Michelin Launches Eco-Friendly Primacy 5 in Mexico

Michelin has launched its Primacy 5 tire in the Mexican market, offering a 6% reduction in environmental impact compared with the Primacy 4. Designed for sedans and SUVs—including combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles—the tire will be available in 35 sizes by the end of 2025, expanding to 60 sizes by mid-2026.

The Primacy 5 delivers an 18% longer lifespan than its predecessor, adding roughly 12,000 kilometers of service life. Its rolling resistance has improved by 5%, reducing fuel and energy consumption, while a new tread design with 13% deeper channels enhances wet braking performance by 4% versus the Primacy 4. Michelin’s life cycle assessments indicate these features collectively cut overall environmental impact by 6%.

Optimized block and sipe placement across sizes also reduces interior and exterior noise while improving ride comfort—a feature increasingly valued by consumers, especially as the EV market grows.

Earlier this year, Michelin announced  the closure of its Queretaro plant, limited to 500,000 units annually. Instead, the company is expanding production at its Leon, Guanajuato facility, which has an annual capacity of over 13 million tires.
