PwC Foundation Backs Terra Habitus Forest Resilience Project

The PwC Foundation has selected Terra Habitus as the first nongovernmental organization in Mexico to receive its strategic funding, supporting a two-year initiative focused on forest conservation, water resilience and disaster prevention in northeastern Mexico.

The grant will enable Terra Habitus, a nonprofit organization dedicated to water resource management, ecosystem regeneration and environmental stewardship, to strengthen environmental and community resilience through projects targeting key ecosystems, including Cumbres de Monterrey National Park.

The PwC Foundation, an independent nonprofit organization guided by PwC’s purpose and values, provides grants in three priority areas: education, disaster response and support for PwC people. Its funding strategy is designed to foster innovative thinking and solutions that address the root causes of social challenges, promote systemic change and generate sustainable impact.

Since 2001, the foundation has invested US$50 million in humanitarian grants supporting initiatives that help communities anticipate, respond to and recover from natural disasters.

In Mexico, the collaboration with Terra Habitus will focus on mitigating catastrophic wildfires in the country's northeast through satellite capabilities and artificial intelligence tools designed to improve early detection and accelerate emergency response efforts. The project also seeks to protect forest ecosystems through nature-based solutions that can help reduce the risks of flooding and drought while strengthening regional water resilience.

Terra Habitus has been implementing sustainable development and biodiversity conservation projects in northern Mexico since 2020. The organization promotes initiatives aimed at improving water resource management, ecosystem restoration and long-term environmental sustainability across the region.

The grant-funded program will support ecosystem maintenance and conservation activities over the next two years, combining technology and environmental preservation to establish a long-term model for ecological resilience.

The initiative comes as northeastern Mexico faces increasing pressure from climate change, water scarcity and ecosystem degradation. Sustainable cities and water resilience have become strategic priorities for the region, where arid conditions and growing demand continue to strain water resources. Strengthening resilience is viewed as critical to helping communities withstand and adapt to extreme weather events while safeguarding long-term economic and environmental stability.

Terra Habitus also advocates for regenerative landscape management as a strategy to restore ecosystems, combat soil degradation and address water scarcity. The organization promotes sustainable agricultural and livestock practices alongside community participation to generate environmental and social benefits while improving resilience to climate-related risks.

The partnership marks the PwC Foundation’s first grant alliance with a Mexican NGO and reflects growing interest in combining technology, conservation finance and nature-based solutions to address environmental risks and build resilient communities.
