Starbucks Mexico has expanded its “Every Cup Counts” program nationwide, reducing single-use waste by promoting the use of reusable cups, utensils, and tableware. Launched in April 2024, the initiative became available in all stores across Mexico on Aug. 18, 2025.

The program allows customers to enjoy beverages and food using reusable cups and plates made of glass or ceramic. Since its rollout, Starbucks Mexico has served more than 500,000 drinks in reusable cups and over 1 million food items on ceramic plates, exceeding last year’s targets. The company reported an 89% nationwide adoption rate.

According to Saraí Jiménez, Director of Brand and Reputation, Alsea, which operates Starbucks Mexico, launching the program nationwide is a key step in the company’s sustainability journey. “This initiative transforms how we serve coffee and fosters a culture of collective awareness, where each cup reflects our commitment to the planet and the communities that shape our history,” she said.

Starbucks also offers an MX$8 (US$0.43) discount for customers who bring their own cup and has adopted complementary measures such as biodegradable straws and redesigned lids. Earlier this year, the company  launched the 11th edition of its Todos Sembramos Café initiative, planting over 4.8 million rust-resistant coffee trees across Veracruz, Puebla, and Chiapas.
