Tabasco to Host SOS26 Sustainability and Energy Convention

Tabasco will host the International Sustainability, Energy and Environment Convention (SOS26) from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5, bringing together business leaders, government officials, researchers and industry experts to discuss energy transition, environmental protection and sustainable development. Organized by the state government through the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (SEMADES), the event aims to position Tabasco as a national hub for sustainability and energy dialogue while strengthening collaboration across the public, private and academic sectors.

The convention's main agenda will take place on Sept. 3-4 at the Villahermosa Convention Center, featuring more than 20 keynote conferences, panel discussions and specialized workshops, alongside an industrial exhibition with more than 100 booths for companies, suppliers and institutions operating in the energy and environmental sectors.

"What we are seeking is for Tabasco to become the sustainable capital of Mexico. The goal is to generate dialogue, knowledge and partnerships to address today's environmental challenges," said Sheila Guadalupe Cadena, Head, SEMADES. 

The first day of the conference will focus on the energy sector, with discussions on hydrocarbon exploration and production, strategic partnerships for energy development, climate emergency response and technological innovation. The second day will shift toward sustainability topics, including integrated water management, sustainable cities, reforestation, ecosystem restoration and renewable energy.

The program will also examine the future of Mexico's oil and gas industry, the country's water security challenges and pathways toward lower-impact development models. Moreover, beyond its academic and business agenda, SOS26 will include networking activities designed to strengthen collaboration among participants. The program features a 5km race, as well as tennis, padel and golf tournaments.

The state government expects the convention to establish a recurring platform for high-level discussions on energy and sustainability. Although Tabasco has long been one of Mexico's leading oil and gas producing states, officials say the event marks the first time it will host a forum dedicated to integrating energy development with environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
