Tamaulipas’ Ministry of Education (SET) has launched the Approach to Science, Technology, Environmental Education, and Climate Change program across the state to strengthen scientific and environmental awareness among students. The initiative, implemented through the Undersecretariat of Basic Education and the Directorate of Cross-Curricular Programs and Gender Equity, spans multiple educational levels, from primary schools to teacher training institutions.

Rocío Ávila, Director of the Cross-Curricular Programs and Gender Equity Division, said the initiative combines academic, recreational, and interactive activities, along with specialized talks to inform and sensitize students on scientific, technological, and environmental issues.

The program aims to develop STEAM skills, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, through direct engagement with researchers and specialists. Activities are designed to enhance scientific education, foster critical thinking, and promote lifelong learning.

“The objective is to develop critical thinking in children and youth through exercises that address real-world problems and allow them to work with complex concepts in an accessible way,” Ávila said.

Workshops and talks cover topics including the benefits of pest-controlling insects in Tamaulipas, sea turtle conservation, climate change, water management, energy, micro-world exploration, and electrical circuits.

Ávila highlighted that the program reflects SET’s commitment to educational transformation, providing students with comprehensive training focused on scientific reasoning and environmental awareness, essential skills for their future.
