Digitizing the Frontline Workforce Through AI
STORY INLINE POST
Q: What is Humand’s value proposition and how does it help companies streamline their HR processes?
A: Humand provides companies with a dedicated digital community and mobile application designed to connect 100% of their workforce. Our platform enables employees to request vacations, view company news, receive recognition for their achievements, complete onboarding, and access corporate benefits directly from their phones. It also simplifies administrative tasks, such as requesting new uniforms, replacing lost badges, or submitting payroll and overtime claims. Traditionally, these interactions are highly manual, relying on paper forms, emails, or verbal requests to managers. Humand streamlines these workflows into a single, intuitive application.
Our primary focus is on enterprises with large operational and frontline workforces dispersed across stores, distribution centers, factories, hotels, and restaurants. These employees often lack corporate email addresses, making communication and HR processes — such as distributing pay stubs or cascading information through managers — highly inefficient and difficult to track. Humand resolves these pain points by offering an accessible, instant communication channel powered by push notifications, significantly reducing administrative overhead across HR, IT, and finance departments.
Q: Humand recently closed a US$66 million Series A funding round, reported as the largest of its kind in Latin America. What will this investment enable the company to do?
A: Humand launched in Mexico in 2021, and it has quickly become our primary market. We now partner with thousands of major companies in the country, including La Comer, Viva Aerobus, OXXO, Siemens, Centro Médico ABC, and Salud Digna, alongside thousands of mid-sized businesses ranging from 40 to 300 employees that also need to digitalize their internal processes.
The US$66 million capital injection will allow us to significantly enhance our platform by integrating AI across all modules. For example, OXXO processes over 1 million employee tickets annually through Humand, covering payroll clarifications, vacation requests, and badge replacements. Previously, each ticket had to be resolved manually by an HR team member. By introducing AI, the vast majority of these repetitive requests can now be resolved autonomously, saving our clients substantial time and money.
Furthermore, we are applying AI to accelerate performance evaluations and generate automated summaries of results. We have also introduced an AI-powered course creation assistant. Instead of hiring external consultants or spending weeks designing training programs, HR managers can simply upload a PDF outline, describe their objectives, and the AI will generate a complete corporate training or onboarding module in seconds.
Q: Frontline workers represent roughly 80% of the global workforce, yet they have historically been underserved by digital HR tools. What specific product design choices have allowed Humand to successfully serve this segment?
A: Roughly 99% of enterprise software is designed for desk-bound employees who use a computer. The most fundamental barrier for frontline workers is that standard enterprise software requires a corporate email address to log in. Because companies generally do not provide email accounts to operational staff, these workers are systematically excluded from platforms like Microsoft or traditional HR portals. Humand changes this by allowing employees to log in using their personal email or unique employee ID numbers.
Additionally, frontline employees do not work at desks; they are operating machinery, serving customers at cash registers, stocking shelves, or managing hotel front desks. Their only digital touchpoint is their personal smartphone. Enterprise software is traditionally fragmented, requiring separate apps for calendars, emails, and chat. Frontline workers will not download six different apps for work. Humand integrates over 40 distinct modules — including chat, social feeds, onboarding, and vacation management — into a single, lightweight application. We also designed the user interface to mimic familiar consumer apps: our chat function operates like WhatsApp and our news feed looks like Facebook, ensuring instant adoption without the need for extensive training.
Q: Mexico is moving toward a gradual reduction of the workweek to 40 hours and mandatory digital disconnection rules. How is Humand positioning its platform to help employers adapt to these regulatory changes?
A: These labor reforms place a strict compliance burden on employers, requiring an unalterable and auditable record of employee working hours to avoid steep penalties, which can range from MX$30,000 (US$1,702) to MX$600,000 (US$34,035). Humand features a robust time-tracking and digital clock module that has been central to our platform for years. As these regulations become mandatory, our platform directly enables companies to maintain legally compliant, tamper-proof records of shifts and hours worked. By using Humand, employers can seamlessly transition to the new legal frameworks while mitigating the risk of regulatory fines.
Q: What are Humand's growth targets for the Mexican market and the wider region?
A: Our next major milestone in Mexico is to expand our footprint to over 10,000 active corporate clients. We are deeply committed to anchoring our operations in the country; our Mexican office is on track to surpass 100 dedicated team members to support this localized growth. Mexico remains our largest market in terms of users and corporate partners, and our ultimate vision is to remain the top digital solution for any enterprise looking to connect, optimize, and empower its operational workforce.
Q: What commercial strategies are driving your client acquisition and helping you scale toward that 10,000-company milestone in Mexico?
A: Organic word-of-mouth referral from our existing clients is our most powerful acquisition driver. When HR executives experience how the platform transforms their operations, they recommend us within their professional networks, leading prospects directly to our website to request product demonstrations.
To supplement this organic growth, we have built strategic alliances with leading human resource associations across Mexico, such as AMEDIR and ERAC in Monterrey, who use Humand for their own ecosystems. We also leverage a strong network of internal commercial teams and specialized software resellers who understand our value proposition and help us scale our market reach efficiently.
