Empowering Skilled Workers Beyond Credentials
STORY INLINE POST
Q: What market gaps led to the creation of Magneto, and how does it optimize the hiring process?
A: Magneto was born from an Indiana University study that focused on shortening hiring times using generative AI. The premise was simple: companies that hire faster gain a competitive edge. We built on this by enabling real-time recruitment, automatically identifying qualified, nearby candidates, conducting interviews via WhatsApp, and presenting top options within 24 hours. Beyond speed, we also address systemic barriers. Many skilled workers lack formal credentials, so we enable alternative ways to validate and demonstrate both technical and human skills, ensuring their competencies are recognized and giving them access to dignified employment.
Q: LinkedIn recently ranked you in the top 1% of HR content creators. How do you align your digital communication strategy with your business goals?
A: We recently became an official LinkedIn partner in Mexico and Colombia, which allows us to directly support the platform’s growth in the region. LinkedIn has become the key stage for professional visibility in Latin America, offering powerful tools for everyone from young entrepreneurs to seasoned CEOs, allowing them to build personal brands and expand their reach. Through our collaboration with LinkedIn, we are helping Mexican entrepreneurs and mid-sized businesses connect with global opportunities, while reinforcing our purpose of enabling formal, meaningful employment through digital platforms.
Q: How have young candidates responded to AI-powered recruitment processes such as asynchronous video interviews or algorithmic screening?
A: Job search behavior has shifted dramatically, as candidates now apply to dozens of roles daily, overwhelming recruiters. Magneto leverages AI to objectively evaluate candidates based on company culture and job requirements, identifying the top profiles without human bias. Our process excludes factors such as gender, appearance, religion, or nationality, ensuring a fair, efficient, and equitable hiring experience that expands access to formal employment.
Q: How do you expand and maintain your candidate network effectively?
A: Traditional job boards are becoming outdated. Resumes are often static and do not reflect newly acquired skills or certifications. Recruitment is shifting toward social platforms — Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok — where talent is actively engaged. At Magneto, we use social media, chatbots and WhatsApp to reduce application friction and maintain direct communication with candidates. This enables us to reach a wide pool of employed but opportunity-seeking talent within 24 hours, fostering a faster, more inclusive, and dynamic hiring process.
Q: How does Magneto integrate with LinkedIn and other platforms to serve a broad spectrum of talent, from executives to blue-collar workers?
A: LinkedIn encourages frequent resume updates and has high penetration among Mexico’s senior and mid-level managers. Meanwhile, Magneto reaches from mid-managers down to blue-collar workers. Our partnership enables the creation of a unified platform that connects CEOs with frontline workers, such as delivery drivers. This integration bridges the gap between high-level professional networks and operational workforce recruitment, enabling companies to hire across all levels seamlessly.
Q: How do you onboard informal workers who may not be digitally savvy or accustomed to formal recruitment tools?
A: Magneto operates entirely on mobile and consumes little data, accommodating regions with limited connectivity. Recruitment occurs primarily via social media and WhatsApp, platforms already widely used and often included at no data cost by Mexican telecom providers. This approach makes the recruitment process accessible and relevant for informal workers transitioning to formal employment.
Q: How does real-time recruitment and predictive analytics improve employee retention?
A: Retention begins with hiring the right candidate under the right conditions. Misalignment often occurs when candidates prioritize one employer but accept another’s offer due to timing or opportunity. Magneto aligns candidate preferences and aspirations with employer needs to improve engagement and reduce turnover. We also use AI to analyze factors like commute distance, family status, and historical job tenure to predict employee longevity with high accuracy. This data-driven insight enables companies to create tailored retention strategies beyond traditional perks.
Q: How does your platform leverage psychometrics and employer-backed training to strengthen the talent pipeline in Latin America?
A: Grounded in applied organizational psychology, our platform uses psychometrics and AI to assess key traits like emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and resilience. Through our "Feedback for Life" model, all candidates receive personalized development plans, regardless of hiring outcomes. Employers sponsor three months of targeted, no-cost training based on each candidate’s skill gaps, helping align talent with market needs. This approach increases employability, strengthens workforce readiness, and supports broader goals around formal employment and talent development in the region.
Q: What partnerships and programs does Magneto offer to support lifelong learning and closing the skills gap?
A: We have three major partnerships. The first is with LinkedIn Learning to facilitate personalized career pathways and continuous skill development via AI-driven recommendations. Second, we enable candidates to obtain peer validations through their professional networks via WhatsApp, emphasizing demonstrated experience over formal degrees. Third, we collaborate with over 100 universities to provide relevant courses and credentialing exams, allowing candidates to certify competencies in practical skills rather than just academic credentials. This ecosystem encourages ongoing learning aligned with market demands and improves employability for informal sector workers.
Q: How should education systems in Mexico and Latin America evolve to meet labor market demands?
A: Education must align with future workforce needs, not just academic performance. There is a persistent gap between what students study and what the labor market requires. Dual education models offer a practical solution by integrating academic training with real-world experience. While challenges remain, there is growing political momentum in Mexico and the region to modernize curricula and strengthen industry-academia collaboration.
Q: What other trends and challenges are influencing the Mexican labor market?
A: Two major trends stand out. First, nearshoring is driving demand for talent as multinationals shift supply chains closer to the United States, positioning Mexico as a strategic hub. However, talent shortages in industrial states like Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi, where unemployment is near zero, pose a challenge that is compounded by a declining youth population.
Second, Mexico has the potential to emerge as Latin America’s tech hub, with companies like NVIDIA already investing in cities like Guadalajara. Realizing this potential will require stronger efforts to retain and develop high-skilled talent, including incentives for students to stay in or return to Mexico after studying abroad.
Q: Which markets or segments is the company targeting to reach its goal of serving 20,000 companies?
A: We work with large corporations including Banamex, VivaAerobus, Alpura, and Bepensa. However, we are strongly committed to SMEs, which constitute 98% of Mexican companies and often struggle to compete for talent against larger firms with greater resources. Therefore, we launched Magneto SMEs, offering the same recruitment technology at an affordable price to empower SMEs to attract talent competitively.
Q: How does Magneto help SMEs compete with larger brands?
A: Employer branding is critical. The young workforce prioritizes purpose and alignment with company values over salary alone. Previously, candidates lined up to work at certain companies; now, companies must proactively communicate who they are, their values, and why talent should join them. Magneto enables both large and small companies to build and broadcast their employer brand across platforms like LinkedIn, Meta, and TikTok, allowing SMEs to market themselves as effectively as major corporations. This can motivate candidates to choose smaller firms for cultural fit despite lower pay.
Q: What are your expansion plans for the rest of 2025?
A: In Mexico, we are focusing on major cities such as Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City, but aim to increase Magneto’s presence in mid-sized cities where employment challenges are greater. We now operate from Peru to Mexico but plan to expand to more countries in Latin America. We plan to enter Brazil, a large and culturally distinct market, in the short to medium term. Our goal is to enable any company operating across multiple countries to solve their local recruitment needs via our platform.
Magneto is a talent tech platform that helps companies attract, evaluate, and develop people to drive growth.
