Mexico City, COPARMEX Partner to Boost Formal Employment

Mexico City’s Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (STyFE) and the city’s chapter of the Employers' Confederation of the Mexican Republic (COPARMEX CDMX) have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at creating job opportunities, promoting workforce training, and strengthening public-private partnerships to drive economic development.

The agreement, signed by Inés González, Minister of Labor of Mexico City, and Adal Ortiz Ávalos, President, COPARMEX CDMX, seeks to reduce informal employment in the capital. It also aligns with the economic policies of Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada.

During the signing ceremony at STyFE headquarters, González said that the agreement includes specific measures and indicators to promote formal employment and address labor informality. She underscored the importance of affirmative actions to create more job opportunities for both men and women across various economic sectors in the city.

Meanwhile, Ortiz highlighted entrepreneurship and business development as key components of social policy. He stressed the need to generate dignified employment that fosters workers’ identity and well-being.

As part of the agreement, a joint commission with representatives from STyFE and COPARMEX CDMX will be established to oversee implementation efforts. The commission will convene regularly to assess progress and evaluate the impact of the initiatives.

The agreement builds on the “Memorandum of Understanding on Decent and Productive Work,” which STyFE signed with business and labor sector representatives in January. The memorandum set the foundation for collaborative efforts to enhance labor conditions and economic opportunities in Mexico City.
