UNAM Pauses Inscriptions Amid AI Cheating Investigation

UNAM has suspended undergraduate enrollment for the 2026–2027 academic cycle, while an expert commission investigates whether AI was used to cheat during its online admission exam, a process involving approximately 158,000 applicants and raising broader questions about academic integrity in the AI era.

Kapital Assets Exceed MX$93 Billion, Credit Portfolio Doubles

Kapital Grupo Financiero closed 1H26 with its credit portfolio expanding over 220% year-over-year, driven by artificial intelligence integration and expanded enterprise financial solutions. By the end of June 2026, total assets for the digital banking institution exceeded MX$93 billion (US$5.33 billion), while its credit portfolio reached MX$30 billion (US$1.72 billion), more than doubling compared to the same period in 2025. Total customer deposits rose 234% year-over-year to reach MX$62 billion (US$3.56 billion).

SONDA Reaches US$11 Million Net Income in 1H26

SONDA reported a net profit of US$11 million for the first half of 2026, up US$7.4 million year over year, driven by stronger operating performance, improved margins, and proceeds from the sale of non-strategic subsidiaries and real estate assets. The company also increased revenue, EBITDA, and commercial activity across Latin America, supported by large-scale digital infrastructure and technology projects that expanded its regional pipeline.
