Apple will seemingly go all-in on camera features in its next iPhone launch. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, one such feature called Cinematic Video will allow users to record video with portrait blurring effects, a feature that has been offered by competitor Samsung for some years now. In more camera improvements, Apple will move away from its current AI-based filter system to offer users a new one that will offer a choice of various styling options to enhance aspects such as color, shadows and contrast, Bloomberg revealed.

Another potential improvement in next iPhone will be a new ProRes video format, which is commonly used by professional video editors, Gurman said. It will allow users to record in 4K and HD resolutions.  Apple will also offer a higher refresh rate for displays, a feature that serves to make transitions feel smoother and was first introduced on the iPad Pro.

Apple has traditionally launched iPhones in September. However, the pandemic caused complications in the production of the iPhone 12 and the company had to launch it in October. At that time, it unveiled one of its biggest redesigns of the iPhone in recent years, featuring bigger support for 5G networks. By 2022, Apple reportedly will include this technology in all of its iPhones, including its cheapest version, Nikkei Asia revealed in April.

In its fiscal third-quarter, iPhone sales and its services business helped Apple beat analysts' estimates. The company led by Tim Cook reported a 36 percent increase in revenue to US$81.43 billion, beating analysts' expectations of US$73.3 billion by 11 percent. In the period, iPhone sales grew 50 percent year-on-year to US$39.57 billion. According to Cook, the strong results were driven not only by people replacing their old iPhones, but also by Android users buying an iPhone for the first time. Its figures for the quarter are also thanks to Apple’s performance in emerging markets, including Mexico. “We had an incredible quarter for emerging markets. June quarter records in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Turkey, UAE, Poland, Czech Republic and India,” said the company on its financial conference call, as reported by MacRumors.

The trend promises to continue with 44 percent of current iPhone users planning to upgrade to one of the iPhone 13 models as soon as it becomes available, according to phone price comparison site SellCell. So far there is no official launch date for the new iPhone but it is expected to be again in September. In early April, sources told DigiTimes Asia that chip manufacturer TSMC was set to kick off volume shipments for Apple's next-generation iPhone processor ahead of schedule.
