Data has been driving innovation for several years and the cloud has helped companies to reduce hardware costs and paper waste, while increasing accessibility through any location with an internet connection. While companies continue migrating to the cloud, 5G will bring major improvements to the cloud computing world, say experts.

Although migrating to the cloud is important, doing it efficiently rather than quickly is crucial, said to MBN Rodrigo Martineli, General Manager for Latin America, Rackspace: “Companies need to understand their data and assets, transform them into workloads and identify the best way to move these workloads to the cloud. With a transition from ‘cloud first’ to ‘cloud smart,’ clients first analyze how to move to the cloud and request our help in assessing their infrastructure and business.”

5G stands to permeate all industries from the tech sector itself to mining, energy and automotive. “5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect everyone and everything, delivering peak data speeds, ultra-low latency, massive network capacity and higher performance,” wrote in MBN Luis Rubio, Executive Partner, Holland & Knight.

While 5G will revolutionize all industries, telecommunications operators will have to face several challenges before offering a nation-wide coverage in Mexico. Some of the infrastructure needed for 5G is already in place but for 5G to work, small-cell technology must be added to increase network capacity, according to Essentra Components. In addition, 5G network infrastructure requirements involve frequencies that can only cover a short distance. Consequently, an ultra-dense grid is required.

The cost of deploying a 5G telecommunications site could range from US$20,000 to US$50,000, and operators must pay government fees to use licensed radio frequencies, wrote Rubio. “Deploying 5G networks will also require close and timely coordination with local and federal authorities. Operators will have to knock on several doors.”

The impact, challenges and opportunities of data, 5G and cloud computing in the innovation revolution will be discussed during Mexico Business Forum 2022. The event, hosted by Mexico Business on May 11-13, 2022, will feature leaders from diverse sectors to discuss the latest trends and hottest topics impacting business in the country.

Join the conversation with Julio Velázquez from Google Cloud México, Rodrigo Martineli from Rackspace Technology and Chafic Nassif from Ericsson in the panel “The Technologies Driving the Innovation Revolution: Cloud, Data & 5G” and learn the insights directly from those who are shaping the industry.
