Google’s US$32 billion acquisition of Wiz strengthens Google Cloud’s cybersecurity capabilities as enterprises accelerate multicloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence deployments worldwide. The deal underscores rising demand for integrated security platforms capable of protecting distributed cloud environments used by corporations, governments and digital service providers, including those operating in Mexico’s expanding technology and fintech sectors. Enhanced multicloud security tools are expected to shape cloud adoption strategies among Mexican businesses that rely on platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud to support digital transformation and cross-border digital services.

Google completed its US$32 billion acquisition of Wiz, marking the largest purchase in the technology company’s history and significantly expanding the security capabilities of Google Cloud as organizations accelerate the adoption of multicloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

The deal, initially announced in March 2025 and finalized this week, brings the New York-based cloud security platform into Google Cloud while allowing Wiz to retain its brand and continue supporting multiple cloud environments. The transaction surpasses Google’s previous record acquisition of Motorola Mobility for US$12.5 billion in 2012.

The acquisition reflects rising demand for advanced cybersecurity tools as companies and governments migrate sensitive workloads to cloud platforms and integrate AI into operations. Cyberattacks targeting multicloud systems and AI infrastructure have increased in complexity, with attackers increasingly using AI-enabled techniques.

“Keeping people safe online has always been part of Google’s mission,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google. “This job is increasingly important today as more companies and governments move their work to the cloud and broadly use generative AI. By bringing Wiz and Google Cloud together, we’re making it easier for organizations to innovate with confidence.”

Wiz generated about US$1 billion in annual recurring revenue in 2025, providing immediate scale to Google Cloud’s cybersecurity business. The company’s platform connects to major cloud providers and helps organizations identify vulnerabilities, monitor workloads and respond to threats across the entire software lifecycle — from development code to runtime cloud infrastructure. The companies said the integration will create a unified security platform designed to detect, prevent and respond to cyber threats faster across complex cloud environments.

According to Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud, the objective is to simplify cybersecurity for organizations operating across multiple cloud platforms. “We want to make security a catalyst for innovation, not a barrier,” Kurian said. “With this acquisition, we will deliver a unified security platform that simplifies the complex task of protecting multicloud environments in the AI era.”

Multicloud infrastructure has become standard for large enterprises, which frequently operate across providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud and Google Cloud. Securing these distributed environments presents new challenges because organizations must manage different security tools, policies and monitoring systems.

Wiz’s technology provides visibility across these platforms through a single interface. The platform analyzes configuration risks, detects vulnerabilities in cloud workloads and helps security teams investigate incidents quickly. The companies said the combined platform will also use AI to improve threat detection and automate security operations. AI models will analyze data across cloud layers to identify emerging attack patterns and help security professionals respond faster.

The acquisition followed a series of negotiations between the companies. Google first approached Wiz in 2024 with an acquisition offer of US$23 billion, but the startup declined the proposal. Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport said at the time he believed the company could continue growing independently. Discussions resumed in early 2025, eventually leading to the US$32 billion agreement.

US regulators approved the transaction in Nov. 2025 following antitrust reviews, while authorities in the European Union granted clearance in Feb. 2026 after conducting similar investigations. These approvals allowed the companies to complete the deal 12 months after it was first announced.

“Joining Google Cloud allows us to scale our mission of protecting customers wherever they operate — at machine speed,” Rappaport said. “With Google’s AI leadership and resources, coupled with Wiz’s deep knowledge of cloud and code environments, we are in a stronger position to help customers prevent breaches before they happen.”

Despite the acquisition, Wiz will continue to support all major cloud providers. Google said Wiz products will remain available across AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud and Google Cloud, reflecting the company’s strategy to support multicloud deployments rather than limit services to its own infrastructure. Wiz’s security tools will also continue to be available through partner ecosystems and marketplaces, including Google Cloud Marketplace.
