After three months searching for a director, Google Mexico announced yesterday that Julian Coulter will fill the position, replacing María Teresa Arnal who spent three years in front of the company and now serves as Head of Latin America at Stripe.

“Mexico is a strategic country for Google and Julian is the best person to lead it. He was present in the country supporting our leadership transition and timely directing our actions related to COVID-19. We believe that his experience prioritizing the growth of our partners will allow us to position ourselves as a valuable ally in the economic reconfiguration of Mexico,” said Google Vice President for Latin America Adriana Noreña.

Coulter, born in Ireland, studied economics at Trinity College Dublin and holds a Masters in business administration from Harvard Business School. After completing his studies, the now director served as Cura Software Solutions' Vice President Commercial North America. Then he entered the beer company SABMiller, where he worked from 2009 to 2016 in the offices in South Africa and Peru. In 2017, he became Vice President of International Operations for Sony Pictures Television, before joining Google to lead the company's operation in Peru in 2018.

Google is already fighting for cloud services around the world and it has a strong bet on Mexico's market, which is considered key to the company’s business. For this reason, in November of last year, Google appointed Julio Velázquez as its first Director of Google Cloud Mexico. According to Deutsche Bank data, Google Cloud is poised to go from its current revenue of US$8 billion cloud business to nearly US$17 billion in 2021.
