How Human-AI Cooperation Can Benefit Companies, Staff, Customers
STORY INLINE POST
If 2023 was the year artificial intelligence made the news, then 2024 is the year that Mexican companies, employees and clients have had the opportunity to reap the immense benefits it brings. In particular, organizations large and small can already take note of some notable national success cases in surprisingly varied industries, which all have one thing in common: they have realized that the best results we can achieve come from combining the abilities of AI’s analytical power, visual and language processing skills with distinctly human attributes.
Stanford University’s 2024 AI Index Report shared some fascinating findings about exactly where we are in the development of AI and what it means for human-AI cooperation. Assessing AI’s current strengths and weaknesses, researchers concluded that while it already surpasses human activity in fields such as image classification, visual reasoning and English comprehension, it is still far behind humans when carrying out more complex activities, such as competition-level mathematics and common sense for visual reasoning and planning. Not to mention uniquely human qualities like empathy and emotional intelligence.
But of course, the smartest companies out there have already found this out on their own. Namely, that while AI is a powerful tool, it works best as a complement to human abilities and intelligence, rather than as a replacement for them. This unique synergy between humans and AI is where Mexican businesses can already see their investments of time, money and effort pay off in boosts to productivity, efficiency, employee well-being, and revenues.
Not only did researchers find that AI and human intelligence work best when combined, but Stanford researchers also concluded that AI helps workers complete tasks faster and improves the quality of their work.
And It isn’t only in the fields of technology and customer service where AI-human intelligence can reap benefits for your customers and colleagues, there are plenty of other novel Mexican businesses implementing this combination in the most surprising ways. BioGrip, named one of the six startups that are transforming the world via artificial intelligence, is harnessing AI to construct and operate bionic devices for those who do not have the use of one or more of their limbs.
As the BioGrip CEO states in the above article, this is the perfect example of how Mexican companies can use AI for good, to enhance and facilitate the lives of human beings, not to replace them altogether.
Hospital Ángeles, ranked as one of the best hospitals in Mexico, has emerged as an industry leader in the integration of AI and the human touch when delivering the best in patient care. The hospital has recently started using AI for its physiotherapy rehabilitation rooms, and also in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Not only this, but Mexican pharmacies are already seeing up to 20% savings from using AI in the procurement of medication, stock control, and also in helping patients identify potential drug interaction problems when taking multiple medications, bringing such risks down to close to 0%.
Other examples of the humane use of AI to promote health and well-being include the Mexican developed Pablo AI, a specialist listening tool that analyzes social networks to identify outbreaks of contagious diseases, with the ability to notify public health authorities at speed.
Many other Mexican companies are also combining human creativity and the processing power of AI to improve efficiency, productivity, and customer experience. HR experts are able to implement AI to automate and centralize all the different operations required for a company’s HR department to run smoothly, which in turn reduces human error and frees up time for humans to focus on the most important issues, such as one-to-one interactions, dealing with individual challenges, and making sure they hire the very best candidates.
We use our own AI-driven chatbots at Gupshup to handle routine queries, enabling human agents to tackle complex tasks. In its work with brands across sizes, our company has seen support calls reduce by at least 40%, leading to efficiency and higher agent productivity. A combination of AI and humans, wherein AI brings in contextual understanding, ensures that agents spend 60% less time to resolve queries. And all this combines to create happier employees and more satisfied customers, with satisfaction levels going up by around 35-40%.
It’s this unique combination of the best of human and AI that we believe will shape the future to be more humane, not less. And some of the most inventive Mexican companies are already taking a leading part in this. AI needs a human hand, and humans can benefit from the extra intellectual muscle to free them to do what they do best: connect with other humans.
