Public safety in Mexico is a matter of interest to all Mexicans. From the largest cities to the most remote corners of the country, it is necessary to protect the people who live in these places, their tourists, the entrepreneurs who bet and invest in the development of their infrastructure in a certain location, and the workers; security must be perceptible to all elements that make up an ecosystem.

But what happens when it is not? According to recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 61% of the population considers it unsafe to live in their city, a statistic that reflects the opportunities for improvement in a country like Mexico, which historically has been a cultural, culinary, and tourist cradle, but which is still in the process of resolving a structural issue: the protection of its own. This feeling of insecurity has multiple facets and repercussions that affect the daily lives of citizens, from limiting their mobility and daily activities to generating an environment of constant worry and stress.

The link between security and economic development is undeniable, as it has a direct impact on the perception of social stability and the quality of life of the inhabitants, in addition to having direct consequences on the business, institutional, and economic activities of the country. The lack of security can deter both domestic and foreign investors, who could choose to take their capital to safer regions, thus affecting economic growth. Similarly, insecurity can discourage tourism, a key sector for many local economies and an important source of income and jobs.

Security or lack thereof also has an impact on investment, the development of local businesses, and the competitiveness of the Mexican economy in the global context. In this sense, and according to the Statistical Report on the Behavior of Foreign Direct Investment in Mexico, in 2023, foreign direct investment (FDI) exceeded US$billion, which represents an increase of 2.17% compared to the previous period, although it is also important to note that only 13.36% corresponded to new investments. This data suggests that, although Mexico remains an attractive destination for investment, concerns about security can limit the flow of new capital.

In this context, prioritizing security is not only a necessity but an opportunity to accelerate economic development and improve the quality of life in Mexico.

With a view that must always be fixed on the community, security provides the foundation upon which fundamental aspects of society can flourish, from the family and community spheres to the business and economic spheres. It is essential to adopt a comprehensive approach that promotes collaboration between the public and private sectors, through technological platforms, that allow security challenges to be addressed effectively and proactively.

That's right, technology plays a crucial role in the fight to preserve security in Mexico. While it is not the only solution, it can be a powerful catalyst and ally in the prevention and fight against crime. Video security solutions, artificial intelligence, critical communications, and command centers developed by companies like Motorola Solutions are helping to improve the ability of authorities to effectively detect, prevent, and respond to crime and emergencies across the country. These technologies are allies for a proactive security approach and at the same time to improve the ability to respond quickly and effectively, marking the difference between a controlled situation and a crisis.

From mission-critical communications under international standards such as P25 to video security solutions with Artificial Intelligence located in strategic places in the city, technology is advancing to improve public safety. For example, mobile devices integrated into the uniforms of security personnel and also in their patrols, as well as broadband solutions, which allow you to make the most of a world full of information in real-time. This information is vitally important to react assertively in the most necessary moments.

Currently, there are technological innovations in fields such as video security in which a radical evolution is perceived between what we can do now and what we had only a few years ago. Today, security institutions can equip themselves with a network of body cameras, such as the V500 for their agents, and thereby take advantage of real-time intelligence to obtain a more effective and collaborative response; from seeing everything that the user perceives in real time, obtaining immediate recordings through LTE, or even managing all devices remotely.

These types of innovations create a new ecosystem of secure portable LTE infrastructure that involves everything from hand-held and vehicle devices to always-on or easily transportable devices. This infrastructure enables continuous and reliable connectivity, facilitating real-time communication and coordination. Operational efficiency and the overall safety of people can be improved through devices and systems that are always connected, thus ensuring that security personnel can access critical information instantly.

The combination of advanced technology, a people-centered approach, and close collaboration with communities are fundamental pillars for achieving effective and sustainable security. It is crucial to maintain a constant innovation cycle in the field of community protection to stay ahead of emerging threats and challenges. In a world where security challenges are constantly evolving, we must take action in protecting and developing a safe environment for all. Only through this comprehensive approach can we move toward a Mexico where security is a tangible reality for all its inhabitants and visitors, thus contributing to sustained and equitable economic and social development.
