The insurance sector in Mexico is experiencing a period of constant change, driven by economic and social challenges, and technological acceleration. These challenges have forced insurers to strengthen operational efficiency and service offerings to a public that is changing constantly.

At the same time, digitalization has become an indispensable pillar for all sectors: insurers are migrating toward comprehensive platforms that streamline policy issuance and management, with the goal of offering a more seamless experience for users and customer service teams. Furthermore, the rise of digital threats has placed cybersecurity at the forefront. There is also a proactive focus on sustainability and regulatory compliance: The sector recognizes that being a financial safety net is not enough; it must transform with innovation, sustainability, and a focus on climate risks and how to counter them.

There is also a strong commitment to offering personalized insurance, as the Mexican public has gravitated toward policies that meet their needs and, consequently, better fit their budgets, across all markets.

In this sense, the first half of 2025 has brought several lessons for the sector:

Digitalization as a strategic lever: Those who invested in automation, the use of artificial intelligence as a support tool for services, virtual assistance, and agile customer service were able to improve customer experience and reduce operational times, benefiting both workers and patients.

Personalization as a service: Customers sought more flexible and tailored policies; the one size fits all has become obsolete across the markets, including the health and insurance sector. This implementation by insurers led to loyalty and improved market perception, achieving approximately 13,370,000 Mexicans insured.

Innovation in products and coverage: Hand in hand with policy customization, innovation in products such as remote medical care and national and international coverage has established itself as an effective response to changes in consumer habits in the digital age.

Strategic alliances as a driver of growth: Cooperation with other insurers and players from various sectors has been essential to expanding services and improving reach, diversifying the offering and increasing brand visibility for a previously untapped target. For example, Bupa Mexico's Tu Médico Particular (Your Private Doctor Insurance) partnership with BBVA offers customizable insurance that combines the coverage patients seek with the most convenient payment options. At this point, it's important for partners to share similar values and visions to ensure a more effective synergy, always focused on achieving policyholder satisfaction and care.

Sustainability and ESG as imperatives: More than just a trend, alignment with environmental, social, and governance criteria has gained traction and is beginning to become part of the product and operating strategies of more and more companies, not just in the insurance sector.

With these lessons in mind, looking ahead to the remainder of 2025, the Mexican insurance sector faces a promising outlook, with some clear trends to consider:

Hybrid return with more in-person care: The dominance of digitalization is undeniable; however, innovation also goes hand in hand with the fact that technology is no substitute for direct human contact. Personalized consultations, policy renewals, and events in offices or plazas will open up opportunities to strengthen relationships and trust between insurers, agents, and customers.

Even more personalized products: Personalization is expected to deepen even further, with dynamic policies based on customer behavior and specific needs, offers adjusted in real time, and personalized preventive care. In this regard, at Bupa Mexico, we launched the new Global Choice Health Plan, an affordable insurance plan that offers free choice of doctors and national hospitals per contracted area, in addition to the global coverage that characterizes us.

More alliances and collaborative innovation: Collaborations will continue to be vitally important to accelerate innovation, share risks, and reach niches that need greater attention and a variety of offerings.

Strengthening sustainability and ESG policies: We expect insurers and other sectors to continue promoting initiatives to help the planet, in addition to using clean energy and strengthening their internal culture of diversity, inclusion, and ethics.

Technological and regulatory resilience: Given recent climate and digital concerns and threats, increased investment is expected in cybersecurity infrastructure, along with compliance with regulations such as DORA that focus on maintaining cybersecurity resilience and strengthening fraud detection systems through advanced analytics.

The second half of 2025 represents a decisive period for the Mexican insurance sector, offering the opportunity to balance digital efficiency with human experiences, offer more personalized products, strengthen strategic alliances, and integrate sustainability with innovation, with the goal of taking the lessons learned and applying them to continue improving for customers and employees. It's not just about adapting but about redefining the role of insurance as a smart, flexible, and reliable solution in an increasingly diverse and changing world.
