The pandemic has claimed another victim. From Dec. 4, 2020 SinDelantal will close operations in Mexico. "Mexico is living in an environment of intense competition in the food delivery industry, where many brands seek to win the heart and stomach of the Mexican consumer. SinDelantal's partners will focus their resources on those markets where they are in a leadership position," the company said in a statement this afternoon.

The app stressed that before they say goodbye to the Mexican market in 2020, their payments to suppliers, restaurants and delivery companies will have been fulfilled. "It was a pleasure for us to bring you your favorite foods during the pandemic and all these years and we want to thank you for making us your favorite food delivery app," the company announced in a message to its app users.

In December last year, food delivery app startup Postmates closed its office in Mexico City. According to analysts, factors that might have precipitated this decision include the intense competition for Mexico City market share with both national and international food delivery app startups such as UberEats, Rappi and Didi Food. Three months earlier, Postmates raised US$225 million in a financing round among private investors.
