Q: What business opportunity motivated TMC to launch operations in the Mexican market? 
A: We identified Mexico as a strategic market due to two key drivers. First, the local market offers a dynamic landscape across various industries, which aligns with our global mission to serve diverse sectors. Mexico's robust business environment makes it an ideal location for local-to-local market opportunities. Second, Mexico is positioned as a key nearshoring hub, providing cost-effective services for North American clients, particularly in the United States and Canada. This allows us to complement our services in those regions with competitive talent and cost advantages.

Q: What does TMC bring to the Mexican market and how does it differ from other technology consulting firms?
A: Our value proposition centers around targeting high-end, strategic projects that require expertise rather than volume. We take a unique “employeneurship” approach, prioritizing long-term relationships with our clients and engineers, fostering continuous learning, and ensuring that our talent is equipped with the best skills in areas such as big data, embedded software, and manufacturing engineering. 

Q: How can TMC’s “employeneurship” model benefit the Mexican market?
A: Our “employeneurship” model reflects our unique blend of employment and entrepreneurship. It was designed to attract and retain top talent by offering long-term contracts, profit-sharing, continuous training, and entrepreneurial opportunities. In Mexico, this model is particularly valuable as it taps into a growing pool of talented engineers and scientists. By providing full transparency on project earnings and offering financial incentives through profit-sharing, alongside budgets for ongoing education and development, we foster a culture of ownership and innovation. This allows Mexican talent to grow professionally while driving innovation, enabling them to lead high-impact projects and even develop their own initiatives through our entrepreneur lab.

Q: Can you share an example of how TMC's employeneur model has led to successful innovation, and how do you envision replicating such success in the Mexican market?
A: At TMC, success stories like Danny Hameeteman’s exemplify the true power of our employeneurship model, which fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Danny's journey with Throwabot, a reconnaissance robot developed in our Entrepreneurial Lab, is a perfect example. Starting as an idea, Throwabot has now become a key product, with ten units delivered to the Dutch Ministry of Defense to enhance safety during military operations. This collaboration not only highlights our ability to turn cutting-edge ideas into market-ready solutions but also demonstrates how TMC provides the support and resources necessary for employeneurs to create lasting impact. Replicating this in the Mexican market is entirely feasible—by leveraging local talent and fostering an environment where entrepreneurial spirit thrives, we can bring similar success stories to life.

Q: What are the main sectors that TMC seeks to penetrate to consolidate its objectives within the Mexican market? 
A: We focus on two key verticals: Technology & Engineering and Life Sciences & Pharma. The Technology & Engineering vertical aims to support clients across the entire project life cycle, from R&D to project management and maintenance. We also see significant opportunities in Life Sciences & Pharma, particularly with the emergence of new facilities and local players. This vertical focuses on manufacturing and project engineering roles, aiming to deliver tailored solutions that meet the unique demands of these growing industries.

Q: What emerging technologies are being adopted by Mexican and Latin American companies and how can TMC maximize their implementation?
A: There is a strong trend toward Industry 4.0, driven by the rise of new factories and plants across the region. This involves automation, advanced manufacturing technologies, and digitization, where TMC's engineers can contribute across multiple areas, from project engineering to system integration and maintenance. The second key trend is the growing adoption of big data, IoT, and 5G technologies. As these technologies rapidly expand, particularly with 5G network rollouts, our expertise in these fields positions us to support clients in implementing high-end projects that require specialized knowledge in data science and IoT integration.

Q: Among all emerging technologies, which do you expect to have the biggest impact in TMC’s operations?
A: Globally, we have seen success in leveraging trends like semiconductors in markets like the Netherlands and Belgium, where we became the leading consultancy for software for semiconductor-embedded systems. In France, we have excelled in manufacturing and Industry 4.0 automation projects. In Spain, we also capitalized on 5G and big data solutions. In Mexico, we will focus on these same high-impact technologies, particularly Industry 4.0 and automation, which align with market demands and represent key growth opportunities for our operations.

Q: What strategies would you recommend to Mexican organizations to protect their data and maintain the trust of their customers? 
A: Mexican organizations should invest in robust cybersecurity infrastructure, adopt industry best practices such as NIST or ISO 27001, and prioritize employee training on security protocols. Continuous monitoring and a comprehensive incident response plan are also essential for promptly identifying and mitigating threats. Trustworthy consulting partners can also provide the expertise companies need to enhance security measures and navigate complex cyberthreats, ensuring a proactive and effective approach to cybersecurity.

Q: What are your priorities for the Mexican market for the remainder of 2024 and in 2025?
A: Our immediate priorities focus on establishing a strong local team to support our operations. We are onboarding recruiters and business managers who will be instrumental in attracting top talent and connecting with clients. This team setup is expected to be completed within a month. We are also meeting customers to understand their needs and ongoing projects. Our goal is to have nearly 40 employeneurs by the end of 2025, with a long-term target of expanding to between 200 to 250 employeneurs in Mexico within five years. 

To achieve this, we are leveraging Mexico's strong engineering universities, which are producing a dynamic influx of new graduates. We plan to actively participate in various forums and exhibitions organized by these universities to introduce TMC as a potential employer. Our strategy emphasizes engaging with students and recent graduates directly, ensuring that our projects align with their interests and aspirations, creating a compelling reason for them to join our team. 

Q: What challenges could limit the achievement of these objectives?
A: Attracting talent is a challenge. Many skilled Mexican professionals are drawn to opportunities in the United States and Canada, but we are optimistic about the quality of talent we are encountering in Mexico. Macroeconomic and political factors may also influence market dynamics, potentially impacting our clients and operations. These factors are outside our control so we focus on aspects we can influence, such as strengthening our operational model and maintaining close relationships with our customers.

Q: What can we expect from TMC’s operations in Mexico by the end of the decade? 
A: We want TMC to be recognized as an outstanding employer in Mexico, with satisfied and actively engaged employees. Our goal is to have a robust employee model in place, with offices in key hubs, like Monterrey. We will continue placing a special emphasis on employee ownership and plan to establish a dedicated lab space for engineers to innovate and collaborate on projects. We also aspire to be perceived as a multispecialist firm, known for our diverse expertise that clients can rely on for strategic projects.
