TelevisaUnivision has appointed Daniel Alegre as its new CEO, succeeding Wade Davis, who will become Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. Alegre, who has a track record that includes key roles at Google and Yuga Labs, will lead the company during a strategic phase of integration and optimization.

Alegre, a former Princeton and Harvard student, has 30 years of experience leading companies across various industries, including media, entertainment, and technology. Notably, he spent five years in multiple positions at Bertelsmann and held various roles at Google for sixteen years, culminating in his position as President of Global Retail, Shopping, and Payment until 2020.

Most recently, he served as President and COO of Activision Blizzard until 2023, as well as CEO of Yuga Labs, an influential Web 3.0 company. He is also a board member of FEMSA and Cinépolis, showcasing a strong background in operations management and optimization relevant to TelevisaUnivision's current objectives.

TelevisaUnivision, the result of the merger between Televisa, Mexico's largest television network, and Univision, the US Spanish-language television network, faces significant challenges. In 2023, the company reported a 4% decrease in profits, translating to a loss of US$1.6 billion. Additionally, the company's debt stands at US$9.8 billion, according to its second-quarter 2024 report.

Despite these financial difficulties, TelevisaUnivision has seen an increase in total revenue and advertising revenue in 2023 and so far in 2024, with notable momentum coming from the Mexican market and the completion of AT&T's stake in Sky Mexico, as previously reported by MBN.
