Sheinbaum to Discuss Trade, Investment, and Work Visas With Carney. Ahead of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that their meeting will cover USMCA, bilateral trade, investment, and work visas for Mexican nationals. “Tomorrow Prime Minister Carney will visit us at the National Palace. We will hold a meeting with part of his cabinet and members of mine. We will later hold a press conference and then meet with Canadian companies and Mexican business leaders,” Sheinbaum said.
Consultations on USMCA. Sheinbaum said negotiations to review USMCA will begin next year. She explained that consultations are required under the treaty. Mexico and the United States agreed to launch the process simultaneously.
“We knew this communication was coming from the US government, so we coordinated to issue it at the same time. The three countries must carry out these consultations because the treaty itself mandates it,” she said.
National Drill. The head of Civil Protection announced that the upcoming national drill will simulate an 8.1-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter in Michoacan. The alert will sound through 14,491 loudspeakers across nine states and reach more than 80 million mobile phones.
“The drill will take place in Mexico City, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Puebla, Michoacan, Morelos, Colima, Chiapas, and the State of Mexico, using over 14,000 loudspeakers and cell phone alerts for more than 80 million users,” she said.
