GAP Announces US$50 Million Aguascalientes Airport Expansion
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) announced this week a record investment of MX$859 million (approximately US$50 million USD) to expand the Aguascalientes International Airport as part of its 2025–2029 Master Development Plan. The investment marks the largest in the airport’s history and aims to accommodate sustained growth in passenger traffic.
The project will double the size of the departure lounge, adding 910 square meters, representing a 14% increase in terminal space. It also includes a 40% expansion of the aircraft apron, with more than 11,000m2 added, one new aircraft stand, and an extra boarding gate.
“This unprecedented investment is a milestone for Aguascalientes Airport,” said airport director Petros Davutakis Arellano. “It is not only an expansion of our infrastructure, but a firm commitment to the region’s future.”
Davutakis said the improvements will enhance operational efficiency, passenger flow and service quality, aligning the airport with international standards.
The airport handled 475,000 passengers in the first half of 2025, a 3% increase from the same period last year. It currently operates 10 routes, six domestic and four international, and is evaluating potential new destinations.
With this investment, GAP reaffirmed its commitment to high-quality airport infrastructure in addition to strengthening regional and international connectivity, positioning the airport as a key driver of Aguascalientes' economic growth.
