Grupo Marabis Expands Irapuato Industrial Park

Irapuato, Guanajuato-based Grupo Marabis recently finished constructing the sixth stage at its Parque Industrial Castro del Río in Irapuato with the opening of a new industrial building and plans to begin construction on three additional facilities, the company announced.

The current phase represents a total investment of US$46 million and is expected to generate 2,500 jobs. The new building covers 11,539m2, while the three upcoming projects will add a combined 66,674m2, providing a total of 78,214 square meters of industrial space. The facilities will accommodate up to 29 new companies, bolstering investment with modern and strategically located infrastructure.

Claudia Villaseñor, Guanajuato’s Minister of Economy, said the expansion aligns with the state’s public strategy to create quality jobs. “The expansion of Parque Industrial Castro del Río strengthens conditions for national and international companies, consolidating Guanajuato as a competitive and sustainable industrial hub,” she said.

The Parque Industrial Marabis Castro del Río currently spans 603 developed hectares with an additional 120ha in reserve and hosts more than 100 companies. It is part of Grupo Marabis’ industrial ecosystem in Guanajuato, which also includes Marabis Abasolo and Marabis San Miguel in Comonfort. Together, the three complexes cover 770ha and house 115 companies that employ more than 30,000 people.

Guanajuato is emerging as a key destination for nearshoring and innershoring in Mexico. The state features 47 industrial parks across 17 municipalities, offering more than 7,100ha of industrial land, with 3,650ha available for new projects.

Last month, Marabis marked a significant milestone for Irapuato with the inauguration of SK TEC Mexicana at its Parque Industrial Castro del Río. The project includes an 11,000m2. industrial facility and represents an investment of over MX$380 million.

The expansion is expected to generate 80 direct jobs, boosting local employment and strengthening Guanajuato’s position in the automotive supply chain.

During the event, Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, Secretary of Economy, emphasized that the investment reflects the confidence of companies like SK TEC in Guanajuato’s competitive advantages and its potential to expand the automotive industry while creating opportunities for local suppliers.

Lorena Alfaro, Mayor of Irapuato, highlighted the city’s attractiveness to global companies. “Every opening, expansion, and investment plan reflects that good things are happening in our region. It confirms that projects are realized here, that there are opportunities, a strong industrial ecosystem, an integrated supply chain, and a reliable environment for investing and growing,” she said.
