German auto parts supplier Kirchhoff Automotive inaugurated a US$60 million plant in San Jose Iturbide, expanding its footprint in Mexico and reinforcing Guanajuato’s position as one of the country’s leading automotive hubs. The facility, located in the Parque Opción industrial park, is expected to create 200 direct jobs, with 52 positions reserved for residents of nearby municipalities including Victoria, Tierra Blanca, San Luis de la Paz, San Diego de la Unión and Doctor Mora.

Specializing in welding, e-coat, and the production of front-end modules, collision management systems and rear bumpers, the plant adds to Kirchhoff’s global network of 27 facilities and more than 8,000 employees. The company is a key supplier to automakers such as BMW, GM, Stellantis, and Honda.

Kirchhoff, which is celebrating 25 years of operations in Mexico, emphasized its long-term commitment to the country’s automotive industry. Guanajuato, home to more than 400 auto-related projects and US$21 billion in accumulated investment, remains a cornerstone of Mexico’s manufacturing sector.

The new plant also highlights sustainability and quality, holding ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and IATF certifications, as well as an EcoVadis silver medal placing it among the Top 5% of global auto parts companies in environmental and social performance.

Germany is Guanajuato’s third-largest trading partner, with 63 projects representing more than US$3.5 billion in investment. State officials said the Kirchhoff facility is part of 27 new projects signed during the current administration, generating over 7,000 jobs and US$2.4 billion in investment, representing about 30% of its development goals.

“With this investment, Guanajuato strengthens its role as Mexico’s automotive engine and continues to attract strategic projects that boost competitiveness and improve quality of life,” the state government said in a statement.
