Motherson SAS Automotive Systems has opened a new plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, with an investment of MX$280 million (US$15.3 million). The 10,800m2 facility will produce dashboards and locking modules, creating 284 direct and indirect jobs.

The plant, located in the Mencorsa Industrial Park in the Derramadero Valley corridor, officially opened on Sept. 11. Company officials said 204 direct jobs will be generated initially, with operations already producing 150 units daily for Stellantis pickup trucks.

“This is the second Motherson SAS plant in Mexico, and it strengthens our global footprint,” said Víctor Sánchez, Plant Manager. Meanwhile, Frederic Boumaza, CEO, Motherson SAS, noted that the Saltillo facility is the company’s 27th worldwide and part of Motherson’s global network of more than 400 facilities.

The new plant was designed to meet high standards of safety, quality and sustainability. Equipped with digital and automated systems, the facility aims to boost production efficiency.

Sukant Gupta, Head, Motherson SAS Americas, highlighted the speed of the project’s completion. Construction began in August 2024, and by February 2025, training programs for workers were underway. “We now have 120 fully trained operators across three shifts,” he said.

Local leaders praised the investment. For instance, Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez attended the inauguration and said the project would provide “hundreds of new jobs for the people.” Saltillo Mayor Javier Díaz added that the plant strengthens Derramadero Valley’s status as one of Mexico’s most dynamic industrial hubs.

Foreign Firms Eye US$300 Million in Investments in Coahuila

MBN reported that at least 10 mainly US-based companies are considering investments of about US$300 million in Coahuila, according to ProCoahuila Director Sofía Delgadillo. The projects focus on manufacturing, auto parts, machinery assembly, and tools, with some firms expediting decisions due to supply chain pressures and USMCA requirements.

Delegations from the United States, Asia, and Israel will visit Monclova, the Carbonífera region, and La Laguna to review land, parks, and services. Investors are drawn by Coahuila’s infrastructure, flexible industrial developers, security, and proximity to the US border.

So far in 2025, ProCoahuila has managed 35–40 business agendas, maintaining strong foreign interest despite global uncertainty.
