Summary: Nayarit strengthened its position within Mexico’s expanding tourism investment strategy during Tianguis Turístico 2026, securing more than 2,300 business meetings and advancing agreements tied to infrastructure, connectivity, workforce development and international partnerships. The state is expected to capture a significant share of Mexico’s US$42 billion tourism investment pipeline under Plan México, benefiting hotel, aviation, real estate and experiential tourism sectors through airport expansion, new airline collaborations and diversified tourism offerings.
The state of Nayarit strengthened its position as one of Mexico’s fastest-growing tourism destinations during the 50th edition of Tianguis Turístico México 2026, securing more than 2,300 business meetings with domestic and international buyers while reinforcing its role within the country’s US$42 billion tourism investment pipeline.
The state, led by Tourism Minister Juan Enrique Suarez del Real Tostado and backed by Gov. Miguel Angel Navarro Quintero’s administration used the event to advance agreements focused on connectivity, tourism infrastructure, workforce development and international partnerships. The announcements come as Mexico intensifies efforts to position tourism as a strategic pillar of economic development under the federal government’s Plan México initiative.
According to Josefina Rodríguez, Mexico’s minister of tourism, the country expects to attract US$42 billion in tourism investment through 773 active projects nationwide by 2030. The portfolio represents a 10% increase in the number of projects and a 16% rise in investment value compared to previous estimates, underscoring growing investor confidence in the sector.
“We are beginning a new stage for tourism in Mexico, with investments that not only strengthen the sector but also generate well-being, regional development, and new opportunities for thousands of families,” Rodríguez says.
Nayarit was identified among the states expected to receive the largest share of tourism-related investment, alongside Quintana Roo, Jalisco and Baja California Sur. The investment portfolio includes hotel, residential and infrastructure developments aimed at expanding tourism capacity and diversifying destinations beyond Mexico’s traditional beach markets.
Investment Agreements Expand Growth Strategy
Against the backdrop of Mexico’s broader tourism investment push, Nayarit focused on strengthening alliances intended to accelerate destination development and attract additional private capital.
During the trade fair, the state signed a memorandum of understanding with CONCANACO and held strategic meetings with international investors, including RIU Hotels & Resorts. Officials also announced collaborations with PROVINO and the launch of a professional training platform developed in partnership with CENEVAL.
The agreements align with federal efforts to increase investment in tourism infrastructure and improve workforce specialization across the sector. According to Mexico’s Tourism Ministry, roughly 60% of the national tourism investment portfolio is concentrated in hotel and residential infrastructure projects, with Nayarit among the leading destinations for new developments.
The state’s growing prominence reflects sustained investor interest in destinations that combine luxury tourism, nature-based experiences and expanding infrastructure capacity. Officials said the results achieved during Tianguis Turístico reinforce a long-term strategy centered on accessibility, diversified tourism products and international competitiveness.
Connectivity and Infrastructure Take Priority
As investment momentum accelerates, Nayarit is also prioritizing connectivity projects designed to support rising visitor demand and strengthen regional mobility.
State authorities highlighted plans for a new airport terminal project intended to expand passenger capacity and improve air transport operations. The government also launched a joint campaign with Volaris aimed at increasing accessibility and attracting additional travelers to the destination.
The infrastructure strategy mirrors broader national efforts to strengthen transport and destination capacity under Plan México, which seeks to leverage private investment to expand tourism infrastructure and regional development.
According to El Economista, Mexico’s tourism investment pipeline includes projects in multiple stages of development, from preliminary analysis to execution, with a strong concentration in states such as Nayarit, Guerrero, Jalisco and Yucatán.
The federal government also introduced Mexico’s first tourism investment guide during the event, developed in collaboration with FONATUR, CAF and UN Tourism. The guide is intended to facilitate domestic and foreign investment by outlining financing mechanisms, environmental standards and technical requirements for tourism projects, reported MBN.
Sebastián Ramírez, Director, FONATUR, says the institution is being renewed to help “detonate Mexico’s tourism potential” through mixed investment models tied to destination development and recovery initiatives.
Awards Strengthen Destination Positioning
Beyond investment announcements, Nayarit also used the event to reinforce its market positioning through recognition across several tourism segments. The state received multiple awards during the Lo Mejor de México 2026 ceremony, including distinctions for luxury and wellness tourism experiences, emerging beaches and cultural routes. Nayarit also earned recognition from México Desconocido, Excelencias and other tourism organizations.
In the adventure tourism segment, the destination received a national innovation award for its coasteering experience at Mirador del Toro, strengthening its profile in nature and outdoor tourism offerings.
The recognition reflects Mexico’s broader strategy to diversify tourism products and increase visitor spending by promoting cultural, wellness, sports and experiential travel segments.
Community Tourism and Global Promotion
As competition among destinations intensifies, Nayarit is also emphasizing community-based tourism as a mechanism for inclusive economic development.
State officials highlighted tourism experiences connecting visitors with local culture, gastronomy and artisanal traditions in rural and coastal communities. Authorities said the initiatives are helping distribute tourism revenue more broadly while preserving local identity and cultural heritage.
At the Mexico Screen forum, Nayarit promoted its landscapes and production-ready infrastructure to attract film and audiovisual projects, adding another layer to its diversification strategy. Officials also announced upcoming events, including the Riviera Nayarit Half Marathon and an expanded sports calendar aimed at driving year-round demand.
The state concluded Tianguis Turístico 2026 with strengthened international visibility, expanded investment discussions and new connectivity initiatives, reinforcing its trajectory as one of Mexico’s most dynamic tourism markets as the country pursues its goal of becoming the world’s fifth most-visited destination by 2030.
The state announced new agreements with CONCANACO, RIU Hotels & Resorts, PROVINO and CENEVAL, while advancing airport expansion plans and new connectivity initiatives with Volaris. Nayarit also received multiple tourism awards recognizing its luxury, wellness, cultural and adventure tourism offerings, further strengthening its global positioning.
