Nuevo León Strengthens Economic Leadership With 3.8% Growth
Nuevo León posted economic growth of 3.8% in 2025, more than double Mexico’s national average of 1.5%, reinforcing its position as one of the country’s most dynamic industrial and manufacturing hubs, according to data from the Nuevo León Ministry of Economy.
The state ranked first nationwide in its contribution to economic growth and job creation. Between January and July 2025, Nuevo León generated nearly 20% of all new jobs in Mexico despite representing only about 4% of the country’s population. The unemployment rate stood at 2.8%, a level associated with near full employment.
Betsabé Rocha Nieto, head of the Nuevo León Ministry of Economy, said the figures reflect the strength of the state’s industrial base and its attractiveness for investment.
More than 40% of global companies operating in Mexico have a presence in Nuevo León, underscoring sustained industrial investment and the state’s role in national production. Its strategic location along the US border, particularly the Colombia–Laredo trade corridor, has positioned Nuevo León as a key export and logistics platform.
Exports continue to grow, driven by sectors such as transportation equipment, auto parts, home appliances, electrical equipment, lighting and white goods, which together account for a significant share of the state’s manufacturing output and external trade.
To support industrial expansion, the state government is advancing more than 110 infrastructure projects valued at over MX$110 billion (US$6.308 billion). The investments focus on improving connectivity, mobility and logistics corridors, while facilitating the operation and expansion of existing companies.
Energy has also become a central pillar of competitiveness. Nuevo León is Mexico’s largest energy consumer, with demand concentrated in the industrial sector. About 13% of installed capacity comes from renewable sources; 19 additional energy projects are under development, representing investments of more than MX$145 billion. These initiatives align with the state’s energy transition and industrial efficiency goals.
The projects are complemented by energy-efficiency programs aimed at companies and small and medium-sized enterprises, targeting reduced electricity consumption, process optimization and more sustainable industrial facilities.
As part of its regulatory improvement strategy, the state has identified and digitized 44 procedures related to business openings and expansions, which can now be completed online. Officials say the measure reduces processing times and improves the overall business environment.
Authorities are also promoting workforce training, financing and certification programs to strengthen business competitiveness and prepare workers for the evolving needs of the industrial and energy sectors.
Expo Manufactura 2026 to Spotlight Smart Manufacturing
Nuevo León’s industrial momentum will be showcased at Expo Manufactura 2026, one of Mexico’s most important manufacturing trade shows, scheduled for Feb. 3–5, 2026, at Cintermex in Monterrey, reported MBN.
The 30th edition of the event will focus on automation, robotics, additive manufacturing and Industry 4.0 under the theme “Connecting the manufacturing industry with the future.” Organizers expect national and international manufacturers, technology developers and industry specialists to participate.
The exhibition will cover more than 30,000 square meters and include specialized areas dedicated to advanced automation, collaborative robotics and digital manufacturing solutions designed to improve efficiency, reduce costs and boost productivity.
A key feature will be the Expo Manufactura Hub, created to strengthen connections between industry leaders and strategic partners, foster collaboration and support new projects and business alliances beyond the event itself.
