Industrial activity grew in 19 of Mexico’s 32 states in 2024. The state that recorded the highest growth was Oaxaca, driven by the construction of the Interoceanic Corridor, with a year-on-year increase of 11.6%, according to figures from INEGI .

The Top 5 states with the most significant increases in industrial activity included Durango (8.2%), Veracruz (5.6%), Guanajuato (5.3%), and Guerrero (4.3%). Notably, several of these states had previously lagged in industrial development. In contrast, Quintana Roo, recorded the sharpest decline, with industrial activity falling by 20.2% compared to the previous year.

Oaxaca: Tourism and Infrastructure

Oaxaca’s Governor, Salomón Jara, recently announced the renovation of the Oaxaca International Airport, a strategic project aimed at strengthening the state's position as a premier destination for both tourism and investment. With an investment of MX$2.12 billion (US$103.85 million) from Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR), the project will overhaul airport infrastructure and improve regional connectivity.

He noted that the airport terminal will quadruple in size, expanding from 7,000 to 28,000 m², effectively doubling its operational capacity. Jara emphasized that this renovation reflects Oaxaca’s growing importance as a strategic hub for investment. He also highlighted that the state currently ranks first in economic growth within the south-southeast region and second nationwide, just behind Durango.
