Summary: San Luis Potosi is strengthening its position in Mexico’s automotive industry through closer collaboration between the Automotive Cluster and SEDECO, with a focus on innovation, competitiveness, supply chain development and nearshoring opportunities. The strategy is supported by new investments, including JENMAX’s manufacturing facility, and reflects growing demand for advanced industrial infrastructure and specialized talent as automakers and suppliers adapt to electrification and digitalization trends. With US$761.8 million in automotive investment and nearly 6,000 jobs generated in 2025, the state is emerging as a key hub for regional supply chain integration under the USMCA framework.
The Automotive Cluster of San Luis Potosi and the state Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO) are strengthening collaboration on a new portfolio of projects focused on competitiveness, innovation, and industrial growth, as the state seeks to build on its position as one of Mexico’s leading automotive investment destinations.
During a working meeting, Automotive Cluster President Alberto Rosales met with Mario García Valdez, San Luis Potosi’s Minister of Economic Development and a member of the cluster’s board of directors, to review the current state of the automotive industry and define priorities for the second half of the year.
The discussions centered on technological transformation, supply chain relocation and the growing need for innovation in manufacturing processes, all of which are reshaping the automotive sector across North America. The organizations also reviewed initiatives designed to strengthen the capabilities of companies operating in the state while creating new opportunities for suppliers, manufacturers and specialized talent.
The coordinated effort comes as San Luis Potosi continues to attract significant automotive investment and expand its role within the regional manufacturing ecosystem.
Industry Prepares for Next Phase of Growth
As the automotive sector undergoes profound changes driven by electrification, digitalization and nearshoring, industry leaders are seeking strategies that will help local companies remain competitive in an increasingly integrated North American market. During the meeting, representatives analyzed the outlook for the automotive industry in the coming months and reviewed an agenda of projects and activities that the Automotive Cluster plans to implement during the second semester of the year.
The initiatives are intended to reinforce the state’s industrial capabilities and help companies adapt to evolving market requirements. Officials highlighted the importance of fostering innovation and strengthening collaboration across the automotive value chain to support long-term growth.
The cluster and state authorities also emphasized that maintaining close cooperation between the public and private sectors will be critical for sustaining investment attraction efforts and ensuring that San Luis Potosi remains a preferred destination for automotive manufacturing.
New Investments Reinforce State's Industrial Base
The strategic planning efforts coincide with the arrival of new international investments that continue to strengthen San Luis Potosi’s manufacturing platform. Among the latest developments, automotive supplier JENMAX inaugurated a new manufacturing plant at Logistik II Industrial Park, marking a significant expansion of China-based Jinma Industrial Group’s operations in North America, reported MBN.
The facility is expected to generate specialized employment, facilitate technology transfer and strengthen the local supplier network as manufacturers continue to expand production capacity within the USMCA region.
The investment reflects a broader trend among global automotive suppliers seeking to position operations closer to assembly plants and Tier 1 suppliers throughout North America. As companies adjust supply chains to improve resilience and efficiency, Mexico continues to benefit from nearshoring-related investment flows.
For JENMAX, the new facility provides a platform to integrate into Mexico’s automotive ecosystem while expanding its footprint across the continent and enhancing collaboration with global customers.
Industrial Infrastructure Supports Expansion
The growing influx of investment highlights the strategic importance of industrial infrastructure in attracting manufacturers to the region. Logistik II Industrial Park has emerged as a key destination for international companies entering Mexico’s automotive sector due to its location within San Luis Potosi’s industrial corridor, modern infrastructure and access to skilled labor.
The development also benefits from proximity to major original equipment manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers operating throughout central Mexico, allowing companies to efficiently connect with regional supply chains.
These advantages have helped position San Luis Potosi as a competitive manufacturing hub at a time when companies are increasingly prioritizing locations that offer logistics connectivity, workforce availability and opportunities for regional integration.
Automotive Investment Momentum Continues
The state’s efforts to strengthen collaboration and attract investment are supported by strong automotive investment figures recorded in recent years. According to the Automotive Investment Report Q4 2025 published by Cluster Industrial B2B, San Luis Potosi closed 2025 with US$761.8 million in direct automotive investment, making it Mexico’s second-largest recipient of automotive capital after Nuevo Leon.
The total was generated through 16 automotive projects, including four directly linked to electromobility. Together, the projects created 5,988 new jobs and underscored the state’s growing importance within North America’s evolving automotive supply chain.
The performance stands out given broader global market conditions. During 2025, many companies adopted more selective investment strategies amid economic uncertainty and slower international capital flows, favoring projects with stronger technological capabilities and greater regional integration.
Nationally, automotive investment in Mexico totaled US$3.52 billion during 4Q25, representing a 66.2% year-over-year decline. Despite the reduction in overall investment value, 44 automotive projects were announced or advanced during the period.
Against that backdrop, San Luis Potosi’s ability to attract major investments and promote coordinated industry development highlights the state’s growing competitiveness. With new projects under development, expanding supplier activity and continued public-private collaboration, the state is positioning itself to capture future opportunities emerging from technological transformation, nearshoring and the modernization of North America’s automotive industry.
