San Luis Potosí Strengthens Ties With Japan
San Luis Potosi Governor Ricardo Gallardo reinforced the state´s international prominence this week during a meeting with Japan’s Consul General in Leon, Takero Aoyama, who praised the state for its leadership in attracting foreign investment and for being the only Mexican state with an official representation office in Tokyo.
Aoyama recognized the state’s economic vision and said that the office serves as a bridge to promote bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, and education between Japan and San Luis Potosí.
“Opening this office in Tokyo and strengthening our relationship with Japan means planting opportunities for jobs, development and investment that benefit the people of San Luis Potosi,” said Gallardo. In addition, the governor said that the initiative will also foster cultural and academic exchanges alongside economic growth.
The meeting also marked the 20th anniversary of the Mexico–Japan Free Trade Agreement, which has provided a legal framework to expand trade and investment opportunities. The governor emphasized that the Tokyo office will serve as a strategic platform to connect San Luis Potosi with Asian and North American markets.
During his recent tour of Japan, Gallardo Cardona held meetings with key institutions and corporations including the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Daikin, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Mexico in Japan, and Zensho Holdings. Discussions focused on potential investments in priority sectors such as the automotive industry, electromobility, agribusiness and technology.
The governor reiterated that San Luis Potosi’s presence in Japan strengthens its position as a competitive, globally connected state and opens new opportunities for sustainable growth and innovation.
