Seville Targets Nuevo León to Expand Mexico Partnerships
Summary: Seville is expanding its economic partnership with Mexico through a business mission focused on innovation, aerospace, logistics, advanced manufacturing and renewable energy, with Nuevo León serving as a strategic hub for industrial collaboration. Combined with BBVA's launch of the Smartshoring México platform, the initiative reflects growing Spanish interest in Mexico as a destination for investment, technology partnerships and resilient cross-border supply chains supported by specialized industrial clusters and financial services.
Seville is strengthening its economic ties with Mexico through a business and institutional mission aimed at expanding cooperation in innovation, advanced manufacturing, logistics, aerospace and renewable energy. The initiative, led by Sevilla Open for Business, included meetings with public institutions, industry organizations and private companies in Mexico City and Nuevo León, reflecting the Spanish city's strategy to position itself as a partner for investment and industrial collaboration.
The mission comes as trade and investment relations between Mexico and Europe continue to evolve. At the same time, financial institutions are expanding services to support Spanish companies entering the Mexican market, underscoring growing interest in Mexico as a destination for international business expansion.
During four days of activities, the Seville delegation held 17 meetings with government agencies, business organizations and private-sector representatives to identify opportunities for investment, technology exchange and long-term institutional partnerships.
According to Manuel Parejo, director of Sevilla Open for Business, Mexico represents a strategic market for the internationalization of the Spanish city.
"Mexico represents the second-largest economy in Latin America and consistently ranks among the leading foreign investors in Spain. The combination of Mexico City's financial and institutional ecosystem and Monterrey's industrial and technological capabilities provides an ideal environment to position Seville's competitive advantages in strategic sectors such as information and communication technologies, aerospace, logistics and renewable energy," Parejo said.
The delegation's agenda focused on promoting collaboration that could strengthen business internationalization while encouraging joint projects between organizations in both countries.
The mission also reflects increasing interest among European organizations in Mexico's industrial regions, where manufacturing, technology and logistics continue to attract international investment.
Nuevo León Becomes the Center of Industrial Dialogue
The emphasis on Nuevo León highlighted the state's position as one of Mexico's leading industrial hubs. During its visit, the delegation met with representatives from the Monterrey IT Cluster, the Industrial Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence, the Nuevo León Logistics Cluster, the Nuevo León Aerospace Cluster, engineering company GEA21 and the Nuevo León Ministry of Economy.
These meetings focused on identifying opportunities for collaboration across strategic industries while strengthening institutional relationships between the two regions.
The discussions also explored initiatives that could promote investment, facilitate business internationalization and encourage knowledge sharing between companies, research institutions and government organizations.
Nuevo León's industrial ecosystem has become a major attraction for international organizations seeking partnerships in advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, logistics and aerospace. The state's concentration of specialized clusters and innovation centers has positioned it as one of Mexico's principal destinations for industrial development and foreign investment.
By engaging with organizations representing different sectors, the Seville delegation sought to better understand regional capabilities while identifying areas where both regions could develop complementary projects.
Aerospace and Innovation Drive Cooperation
Following the meetings in Nuevo León, the mission reinforced Seville's objective of expanding collaboration in industries where both regions have developed specialized expertise.
Seville is recognized as one of Europe's leading aerospace centers alongside Toulouse and Hamburg. Building on that position, the city is seeking to strengthen its relationship with Mexico by promoting new opportunities for industrial cooperation, technology development and investment.
Innovation, logistics and aerospace emerged as central themes throughout the mission, reflecting growing demand for international partnerships capable of supporting increasingly complex manufacturing and supply chains.
The modernization of the Global Agreement between Mexico and the European Union also creates new opportunities for commercial and business cooperation, providing an additional framework for organizations interested in expanding cross-border investment and industrial collaboration.
Through the mission, Sevilla Open for Business aims to deepen engagement with Nuevo León's industrial ecosystem while exploring joint initiatives focused on innovation, technology, logistics and aerospace.
The initiative reflects a broader effort by European cities to establish long-term partnerships with Mexican regions that have developed competitive industrial capabilities supported by specialized talent, infrastructure and research institutions.
BBVA Introduces Platform for Spanish Companies
As organizations evaluate expansion opportunities in Mexico, financial institutions are also introducing services designed to simplify market entry and business growth.
BBVA recently launched Smartshoring México, a banking and corporate services platform created to help Spanish companies establish and expand operations in the country. The initiative was introduced during a corporate conference in Madrid attended by executives from Spain, Latin America and Turkey, where participants discussed changing global supply chains and cross-border investment trends, reported MBN.
The platform reflects a shift beyond traditional nearshoring strategies toward a smartshoring model that emphasizes resilient, technology-driven and sustainable value chains. Under this approach, companies increasingly assess factors such as infrastructure, energy availability, specialized talent, digital capabilities and sustainability standards when selecting investment destinations.
Smartshoring México organizes its services into three areas intended to accelerate expansion. The first provides a financial welcome package that includes corporate checking accounts, payroll services, payment solutions, digital banking platforms, foreign exchange services, specialized credit lines, financial guarantees and advisory services to help companies meet sustainability requirements expected by institutional investors.
The second component offers non-financial soft-landing services through a network of legal, tax, accounting and real estate partners that support regulatory compliance, administrative procedures and facility acquisition.
The third focuses on connecting incoming Spanish companies with businesses already operating in Mexico through BBVA Mexico's corporate client network.
According to Víctor Rojas, the BBVA executive responsible for the platform, the service combines financial products, operational guidance and connections with local stakeholders to facilitate business implementation in Mexico.
Together, the Seville mission and BBVA's Smartshoring México initiative illustrate growing momentum behind Spanish investment and business expansion in Mexico. While public institutions pursue strategic partnerships in innovation and industrial development, financial organizations are creating support mechanisms that can help companies establish operations more efficiently, reinforcing Mexico's position as a destination for European investment across technology, manufacturing, logistics and aerospace.
