Summary: Yucatan confirmed a new wave of private investment scheduled for 2026, led by Grupo Empresarial San Francisco de Asís, alongside large-scale public infrastructure projects aimed at positioning the state as a logistics and industrial hub in southeastern Mexico. The investments target construction, retail, automotive, real estate, food and beverage, and logistics, generating new employment while aligning with the state’s Mayan Renaissance strategy, which prioritizes port expansion, industrial parks and supply chain connectivity. The initiative reflects growing investor confidence driven by regulatory stability, public security and coordinated state–federal support under President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The government of Yucatan and Grupo Empresarial San Francisco de Asís have confirmed a new package of private investments scheduled for 2026, aimed at strengthening the state’s economic development and expanding job creation across multiple productive sectors. Governor Joaquín Díaz met with members of the group’s board of directors to review the company’s investment portfolio and its strategic vision for launching new projects in the state.

The proposals span key industries including construction, retail, real estate development, automotive sales, and supermarket operations. According to the information shared during the meeting, the investments will generate more than 230 direct jobs and approximately 600 indirect jobs, reinforcing Yucatan’s local economy and expanding employment opportunities.

As discussions advanced, both parties emphasized the importance of coordination between government and the private sector to ensure orderly and sustainable economic growth. Díaz underscored that Yucatan’s development strategy is built on trust, long-term planning and collaboration between authorities and business leaders. He said the state continues to position itself as a reliable destination for investment by maintaining social stability, public security and transparent regulatory conditions.

The Mayan Renaissance Strategy

Within this broader framework, the governor highlighted the Mayan Renaissance initiative, a master development plan designed to attract new investment through strategic infrastructure and industrial projects. Accompanied by Dafne López, General Coordinator of Strategic Projects, Díaz said the plan includes flagship initiatives such as the expansion of the Port of Progreso, the development of industrial parks and logistics corridors, and large-scale infrastructure investments supported by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

He also stressed the importance of human capital development, pointing to the upcoming opening of the University of the Sea in Progreso, which will offer degree programs focused on port logistics and maritime activity.

From the private sector perspective, Grupo Empresarial San Francisco de Asís outlined its operational scope and ongoing expansion plans in Yucatan. Ricardo Mafud, Chairman, Grupo Empresarial San Francisco de Asís, said the organization operates several divisions, including Procon Grupo Industrial, which manufactures and markets construction materials across southeastern Mexico.

He noted that the group is investing in next-generation technology to increase production and distribution of aggregates, concrete blocks, vibro-pressed slabs, and other prefabricated concrete products. Beyond industrial activity, the group is also expanding its presence in retail, automotive and real estate development.

Mafud reported continued growth of supermarket chains such as Súper Aki and Súper Willis, along with the expansion of automotive dealerships representing brands including Suzuki and Bestune. In the real estate sector, the company is developing shopping centers and new residential zones, with significant investments planned for the current year. He said investor confidence in Yucatan is largely driven by the state’s security conditions and favorable business climate.

Ermilo Barrera, Minister of Economy and Labor, Yucatan, said the investments reflect strong certainty and confidence in the state’s economic direction, adding that the Mayan Renaissance is consolidating the state as an attractive destination for capital while strengthening local companies and productive sectors.

Yucatan Bets on Industrial Infrastructure to Attract Investment

As part of its broader economic strategy, Yucatan is accelerating the development of strategic industrial and logistics infrastructure projects to boost competitiveness, strengthen regional supply chains and attract higher value-added private investment, state officials said.

Authorities say coordinated investments in ports, rail connectivity and industrial planning are reshaping Yucatan’s economic profile as companies seek better access to domestic and international markets, positioning southeastern Mexico as a more integrated player in global trade and manufacturing networks, reported MBN.

At the center of this push is the expansion and modernization of the Port of Progreso, considered the most significant economic development project in the state. The plan includes the construction of an additional 80ha, bringing the port’s total operational area to 114ha and tripling its productive capacity. Total investment exceeds MX$12 billion (about US$700 million), funded jointly by state and federal governments.

Officials say the project will reduce logistics costs, increase cargo handling capacity and support the arrival of manufacturing and foreign trade operations, strengthening Yucatan’s position as a logistics hub.

New Private Investments Announced

In parallel, Díaz and Jorge Arce, President and CEO, HSBC Mexico and Latin America, announced the arrival of two new private investments totaling MX$15 billion (about US$814 million) over the next four years. The projects, led by two food and beverage companies, will focus on production, logistics and distribution, generating jobs and reinforcing Yucatan’s economic growth, reported MBN.

“We are building a competitive and modern Yucatan capable of attracting high-value investments that generate quality jobs and regional development,” Díaz said.

Government officials highlight the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum, as it will allow Yucatan to execute more than MX$37 billion in public investment for strategic infrastructure projects, further consolidating the state as a logistics and industrial hub.

The government said it will continue promoting high-level meetings with financial institutions, investors and business chambers to showcase Yucatan’s potential and attract projects that foster quality employment and balanced growth.
