CEMEX, the construction company, repurposed over 98,000t of waste as alternative fuel in the Monterrey metropolitan area during 2023. This endeavor marked a pivotal moment in waste management, significantly reducing environmental pollution in the region.

Materials such as coal, fuels derived from municipal solid waste, oils, tires, and other solid and liquid materials, previously lacking an effective recycling process, have found new life as renewable energy at CEMEX’s cement plant in Monterrey. Additionally, over 674,000t of industrial and construction waste have been integrated as alternative raw materials, showcasing the industry's commitment to sustainability and circular economy.

With over 30 years of experience in Mexico managing alternative fuels and raw materials, CEMEX has spearheaded this new effort through its Regenera initiative, formerly known as Pro Ambiente. This specialized waste management platform reflects the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Beyond its work in the Monterrey plant, CEMEX actively participates in environmental cleanup initiatives nationwide. From cleaning the Santa Catarina River, to beach sanitation efforts in Oaxaca and Quintana Roo, the company demonstrates its commitment to environmental responsibility and ecosystem preservation. "We are committed to reducing waste, conserving resources, and innovating to minimize our environmental impact," the company states on its website, in a section dedicated to Circular Economy.
