Advancing with its global commitment to positively impact 4 billion people by 2030, Kellanova, formerly known as Kelloggs, launched the Better Days for a Better Future program in Chiapas. Focused on food security, sustainability, well-being, and diversity, this initiative aims to address the alarming levels of food insecurity and poverty in the region.

Kellanova, a multinational leader in promoting family well-being and one of the world's largest plant-based food companies, is collaborating with the Mexican Food Bank Network (Red BAMX) to implement a comprehensive social program in Chanal, Chiapas. The Better Days for a Better Future initiative is designed to effectively combat the pressing issue of food insecurity affecting families in the region.

The program targets over 300 children from more than 200 families, aiming to ensure their holistic well-being through access to nutritious food and educational sessions on healthy habits. Pedro Vázquez, Government Relations and Sustainability Director, Kellanova LATAM, emphasized the program's multifaceted approach, addressing specific needs identified through a nutritional study conducted in tseltal, the local dialect.

The alarming situation of food insecurity in Chiapas, ranging between 70% and 77%, as reported by the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL), underscores the urgent need for comprehensive responses. Furthermore, Chanal, chosen for its high level of marginalization, with 96.1% of the population living in poverty, reflects the initiative's commitment to strengthening community development, underscored Kellanova.

The initiative will address nutritional concerns and promote breakfast habits through efficient food distribution systems, ensuring regular access to balanced meals. Over 4,500 food packages, including Kellanova products, milk, beans, rice, tuna, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and oats, will be delivered, accompanied by the donation of 200 water filters. Community education on the importance of breastfeeding is also part of the initiative. Additionally, it will promote sustainability initiatives, including the development of family gardens and a communal greenhouse.

"We reiterate our gratitude to Kellanova for this community intervention and for joining in the significant effort to improve the development and growth of the child population through the continuous distribution of healthy food and the enhancement of capabilities," highlighted Rutilio Escandón, Governor, Chiapas.

Victor Marroquín, President, Kellanova Mexico, expressed gratitude for the community’s intervention and emphasized the company's ongoing mission to enhance community well-being. "To fulfill our goals, we have forged partnerships with key stakeholders; without their support, we could not expand our project and reach a broader audience in Chiapas," he stated.

This project aligns with Kellanova's global objective to enhance food security in Latin America. Through similar initiatives in Guatemala, the company has already positively impacted more than 280 families and 500 children aged three to seven.
