Detroit Strike Could Mean US$2 Billion Loss for Mexico

Detroit automotive workers are threatening to go on strike. If they do, Mexico could potentially incur a monthly loss of US$2 billion. The strike is scheduled to begin on Sept. 14 unless a resolution is reached. This potential economic setback is attributed to plummeting demand for Mexico's production of auto parts and components, crucial supplies for these manufacturers in the US. 

Nearshoring Powers Queretaro's Automotive Sector

Nearshoring will play a key role in propelling the local automotive industry's continuous expansion, according to Queretaro’s Automotive Cluster. Nearshoring has spurred an increase in requests for quotations, purchase requisitions and the interest of Asian corporations in establishing their presence within the region, says Raúl Lizarriturri Martínez, President, Queretaro’s Automotive Cluster.

With a potential automotive strike in the US still on the horizon, members of the Ramos Arizpe Industry and Business Representatives Association (AIERA) are developing strategies to mitigate unforeseen disruptions. These measures encompass bolstering production capacity and extending working hours to address an anticipated upswing in demand.

SEV Bets on Electromobility with New EV Units

Aiming to capture a 3% market share within the next four years and lead the transformation of electric mobility in Mexico and Latin America, Solarever Electric Vehicles (SEV) presented its 2024 electric vehicle lineup. SEV is customizing electric vehicles for Mexico's needs with its 2024 lineup, including the E-TUS 2024 sedan and the E-WAN Cross subcompact. 

Audi Mexico Graduates Sixth Generation of Apprentices

Throughout the program, Audi gives its students the opportunity to spend 80% of their time practicing at the plant. Audi Mexico graduated the sixth generation of its Dual Apprenticeship Program for the period 2020-2023, with 28% of the graduates being women, the company said in a statement. The program represents a key effort in developing new talent that joins the industry with the right skills required by companies. 

Lazaro Cardenas Expands to Improve Asian Market Access

Lazaro Cardenas continues to invest in its infrastructure, now in an alliance with SSA Mexico, as ASIPONA Lazaro Cardenas entrusts SSA Lazaro Cardenas with the expansion of the Specialized Automobile Terminal (TEA) to continue strengthening the port, as one of the main entries for the Asian Market.
