CFE Distribution presented its Performance Report January - August 2022, as well as the 2022 Investment Programs and Projects Report. The state utility unveiled favorable financial results and described relevant advances in the energy strategies deployed throughout the country.

Guillermo Nevárez Elizondo, General Manager, CFE Distribution, highlighted that working together with the Procurement and Services area of CFE allowed the utility’s arm to obtain consolidated purchases and savings for over MX$570 million (US$28.57 million) at the end of August 2022.

Nevárez highlighted that this year, CFE’s revenues increased by MX$3.42 billion (US$174.18 million), mainly because of the energy lost through transmission that it was able to recover. In August 2022, the value of energy losses was 11.46 percent in high voltage and 13.74 in medium voltage which represented an improvement, reversing the increase in losses that occurred in 2020.

During the presentation, Nevárez also pointed out strategic actions that were carried out throughout 2022 to reduce non-technical energy losses. For example, 4.2 million revisions to measuring equipment, the modernization of 1.06 million electricity meters and settlement regularization, with the latter benefiting 166,000 users with a recovery of 86GWh, equivalent to MX$170 million (US$ 8.5 million). Furthermore, CFE carried out 432 works to strengthen the electrical infrastructure, resulting in savings of 74GWh.

Regarding electrification, CFE reached 99.24 percent coverage for its electric power service thanks to the successful execution of 1,907 electrification projects, which included the installation of 1,290km of distribution lines, 5,011 transformers and the construction of 28,677 electric poles. This benefited more than 1,396 localities and 168,240 inhabitants in the process. These works flowed from 2020 and 2021 agreements, with an investment of MX$1.43 billion (US$72.07 million).

According to the report, by August 2022, 3,443 works funded by the Universal Electric Service Fund (EUSF) with an investment of MX$2.48 billion (US$124.33 million) were under construction to benefit 239,157 users. In addition, on Aug. 31, 2022, CFE signed 98 electrification agreements with state and municipal governments, and 382 works with an investment of MX$371 million (US$18.5 million) were authorized. Currently, 215 of the 382 works have been finished, 106 are projected to conclude in December and the remaining 61 should be completed by February 2023.

At the end of the presentation, Nevárez announced the Investment Projects and Programs report for 2022, which included the acquisition of connections and distribution meters, power regularization of popular neighborhoods, modernization of distribution substations, connection of the Holbox Island, the replacement of Isla Mujeres submarine cable, remote operation and automation in general distribution networks and acquisition of hydraulic equipment.

Finally, Manuel Bartlett, Director, CFE, highlighted the achievements of CFE Distribution and recognized its staff for having restored electricity services in record time on the back of recent natural disasters, such as the September 19 earthquake, that left more than 1,326,588 temporarily without electricity Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, Mexico City and the State of Mexico.
