Technology is embedded in our lifestyles; it’s present and constant in every aspect of what we do. Whether it’s work or play, technology drives practically everything. It has been like that for over a hundred years now, and it only keeps evolving.

The whole 20th century was marked by technological milestones that kept pushing boundaries forward: we transformed how we communicated through radio and television; we reached for the moon; we optimized the way we worked and accomplished mass production; we were able to store the information contained in countless stacks of paper on disks no bigger than a few inches (which nowadays even reach nanoscale); and we virtually made the world “smaller” by creating the internet.

Today, in the 21st century, all of those unseen, wild technologies among other innovations are essential, mundane even. They make up a technological ecosystem that allows us to enjoy the little things and create a huge impact, all at the same time.

From all-in-one personal computers (PCs) to mobile devices like smartphones, we require several devices for several purposes.

This is a statement that made even more sense for both individual users and businesses after the COVID-19 pandemic, a global event in which remote work flourished and we innovated to mold our tech tools to a new way of life and work.

Challenging the idea that our jobs and lives had to be chained to a single place, working remotely also shifted the manner in which all companies approach tech products and how they deliver them.

Cloud-computing, SaaS and IoT finally became concepts that not just tech-savvy people could grasp. It made sense to everyone, at least at a practical level given that we now understand how relevant it is to have a connected remote server and guarantee that all software and hardware are in sync.

As some innovations have come and gone, technologies that have proved functional and efficient have merged (despite any brand competition or dispute) and have become one dynamic ecosystem, mainly because people have bigger expectations about the added value software and technological solutions provide them.

Users prioritize real-time information; social media synchronization; and adaptable solutions that allow them to stay connected and synced across all devices. People want a seamless experience regardless of their preferred platform and wherever they want or have to go.

At the same time, companies went from finding it “somewhat” useful to digitize certain processes or aspects of their products to having a pressing need to create business models  and tech solutions tailored to a new customer profile, while, internally, they also strive to remove constraints and open the way for collaboration.

Saying everything is and must be connected is not an overstatement. It’s the new standard.

At SkyAlert, we have seen this evolution firsthand as our company has expanded in the Mexico and US markets.

Back in 2011, we launched technological B2B solutions designed just for companies that responded to a very specific and very real problem in a highly seismic country: have a reliable and timely information source to react in the face of an emergency derived from a natural hazard.

Then, we saw the same need and opportunity with a B2C product and the SkyAlert App was launched.

As we matured in the Mexico market, our own community of users and experts that helped us build our solutions made us understand that our business model had to continue evolving to adapt and cater to their needs,  contributing on a bigger scale to promote a prevention culture.

REDSkyAlert, our own and unique seismic sensor network that covers 80% of seismic zones in Mexico, enabled us to develop technological solutions designed as an ecosystem and powered by our own servers, and, in most cases, become an active part of our client ecosystems to enhance resilience in the face of an emergency by opening doors, shutting off gas valves, turning on/off lights and prompting associates though audible messages to execute their own safety protocols.

Today we have software solutions for individual users with desktops and mobiles, so they can prevent, react and share valuable information that saves lives.

These platforms were designed while keeping in mind our mission and a customer journey that was also aligned with our core product and the way we want to expand our offer of holistic services that add even more value to our technology.

This is powerful reasoning for all creatives, innovators and entrepreneurs out there who are working hard to materialize their ideas.

You can’t afford to restrain your business model to a single device or context. A full ecosystem that adapts and reacts fast will not only make your customers happy, but will also create a community that enriches your offer organically and guides you on how to diversify it.

The key is to gather the right data and see how you can allow that ecosystem to keep evolving.
