SCJN Decriminalizes Abortion Federally

Supreme Court Decriminalizes Abortion in Mexico

The Supreme Court (SCJN) has decriminalized abortion at the federal level throughout the country. This decision compels public health institutions to provide the service and prevents medical personnel from being criminally charged for performing it. Moreover, federal public health institutions, such as IMSS, ISSSTE or PEMEX, must offer the service for free.

Ministry of Health Reports Decrease in Suicide Rates

Suicide rates in Mexico saw a slight decrease between 2021 and 2022, dropping from a rate of 6.6 to 6.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to Diana Tejadilla, head of the National Suicide Prevention Program at the Ministry of Health. However, there are still challenges in the field of mental health that require urgent attention, especially among the youngest of the population.
