Guanajuato Opens Wastewater Treatment Plant

Guanajuato continues to develop water projects to improve the living conditions of its population. These projects include a wastewater treatment plant in Silao that will begin operations to provide water for the state alongside the Federal Government, said Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo.

The plant represented a MX$71.4 million (US$3.46 million) investment and can treat an average of up to 100 liters of wastewater per second, according to Infrastructure Magazine. Its construction includes an aerobic and anaerobic reactor, a settler, a disinfection structure and a laboratory. The project will eradicate sources of infection from untreated water and improve environmental conditions. The plant is expected to benefit 74,242 inhabitants as it will be able to trat 100 percent of Silao’s wastewater.

Rodríguez Vallejo also met with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to continue talks to generate a project that could fulfil most of Guanajuato’s water demand and provide water to the Industrial Corridor of Guanajuato. The meeting was attended by mayors from Celaya, Silao, Salamanca, Irapuato and Leon.

“We are happy with this work meeting; we are advancing fast; there is a great disposition of the President to support this project to supply water to Guanajuato. Since the Zapotillo project was cancelled; we are working for a plan, which will not only be for León, but will benefit almost the entire state,” said Rodríguez Vallejo via a press release from the State of Guanajuato.

Guanajuato currently has over 50 treatment plants treating 91.33 percent of the state’s wastewater but seeks to improve living conditions for families living in the state.
