Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, Governor of San Luis Potosi, met Miguel Ángel Gil, CEO, Atlético de Madrid, to sign an agreement for the donation of land in Soledad de Graciano Sanchez for the construction of the Atlético de San Luis Sports City.

The land, located near the Ponciano Arriaga International Airport, consists of 11 hectares. Initial estimates indicate that the investment will amount to about US$16 million for the construction of sports fields, player facilities, a clubhouse, press room and other amenities. Gil says that the project will also involve scouting in the four regions of San Luis Potosi to identify children and young adults who can join Atlético de San Luis.

"The Atlético de Madrid project is a serious and long-term commitment. Once the Sports City is built, we will have 70 talented individuals from San Luis Potosi each year who will be ready to join the team's youth academy. We may even bring them to Spain to further develop their skills and talent. We will do everything possible to support this endeavor," says Gallardo.

The partnership seeks to promote sports and talent development in San Luis Potosi, as the construction of the Sports City will provide state-of-the-art facilities for local athletes while creating opportunities for young players to showcase their skills and potentially pursue professional careers in football. The long-term vision of the project is to identify and nurture talent in the region.

The investment from Atlético de Madrid will support the region’s economic and social development. The construction will generate job opportunities during the development phase and is expected to contribute to the growth of the local economy through sports tourism and related industries. San Luis Potosi will also provide confidence for international organizations to potentially convert the state into a sports hub.

The Atlético de San Luis Sports City will not only serve as a training ground for local talent but also as a vital infrastructure pole for sports excellence in the state. The state will benefit from Atlético de Madrid’s investment to transform the sporting landscape of the region and create a lasting legacy for soccer in the state.
