The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) announced it would reassign additional resources for the refurbishment of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM). These works are aimed at improving security conditions and ensuring a better service for Terminal 2 (T2) users.

On Nov. 28, 2022, SICT announced the first reallocation of resources for the project for over MX$100 million (US$5.5 million). The recently announced reassignment totals MX$375 million (US$20.6 million), which in sum represents MX$475 million (US$26.1 million).

T2 is undergoing major infrastructure refurbishment works, which include revamping drainage systems, structures and the foundations, after the airport reported sinkings. To address these issues, SOBSE is also collaborating with UNAM’s Institute of Engineering. According to authorities, the estimated investment to refurbish the airport's foundations totals MX$600 million (US$33 million). Authorities highlighted that all the resources come from the government's funds.

The companies in charge of refurbishment and complementary works are Alfa Proveedores y Contratistas, Jaguar Ingenieros Constructores and the world-leading cement and concrete company, Cemex Concretos. According to the local Ministry of Public Works and Services (SOBSE), works are expected to conclude in 2023. However, the ministry failed to provide an exact deadline.

The decision was published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOF). According to the document, the Executive Power must publish, via AICM's website, all programs and projects financed with public resources. The document stresses that authorities must also publish the project's progress, as well as financial and physical results. The federal government is responsible for sharing that information in all the public media it holds control of, as long as it complies with the Mexican legal framework.

This is not the only project AICM is working on. On April 6, 2023, MBN reported that SICT launched a tender to update services aimed at enhancing user experience. The airport is looking to execute additional infrastructure works in 2023, for which it invited five companies to compete: Herzo Consultoría Financiera, Infraestructura Lidika, Siercorp Ingeniería Aplicada, Servicios de Consultoría y Asesoría para Evaluación de Proyectos and Centro de Análisis de Programas y Evaluación de Proyectos. According to SICT, the bidding results are expected to be publicly announced on April 13, 2023.
