Food company Tim Hortons will invest US$600 million in Queretaro, announced State Governor Mauricio Kuri González. Kuri added that the Canadian company will bring thousands of jobs to the state during the next three years, as Queretaro can become a supplier for Tim Hortons worldwide.

The company will open 50 restaurants in the state, generating thousands of direct jobs and over 7,500 indirect jobs. Tim Hortons branches will be located in the municipalities of Queretaro, Corregidora, El Marques and San Juan del Rio. The company said it will work with the state to improve employment opportunities and conditions in Queretaro, while the governor offered it support in terms of training and skilled labor.

“The goal that we have set for ourselves as a government is to take Queretaro to the next level, doing it hand in hand with businesswomen, businessmen and, of course, with the highest-quality labor that can exist in the country, which is in Queretaro,” said Kuri via a press release.

Many Canadian companies have a strong presence in the state. Since 1999, Canada has been Queretaro’s third largest commercial partner. Over 96 Canadian companies are present in Queretaro, according to Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero, Minister of Sustainable Development (SEDESU) of Queretaro.

Kuri also highlighted that the state holds Canada’s vote of confidence as a safe and adequate entity to do business. Juan José Gutiérrez Chapa, CEO, Tim Hortons México, explained that the company plans to install 30 food outlets in the state’s capital and between five and 10 restaurants in other areas.

“What we are looking for is to work with Queretaro, which is a production center that has the infrastructure for it through its parks, its airports, its highways; it can export and can be certified by the brand,” said Gutiérrez.
