Supreme Court Temporarily Suspends Mining Law Reform

The Supreme Court (SCJN) has issued a binding ruling questioning 25 aspects of the reform to the Mining, National Waters, General Ecological Equilibrium, and Waste Management laws. This ruling could potentially benefit mining companies that have opposed the reforms. In other news, experts highlight that while mining is a major contributor to the energy transition, it remains one of the most targeted sectors, impacting its ability to secure adequate capital for projects that could help drive a cleaner economy.

Mining Law Temporarily Suspended

SCJN decided to temporarily suspend the 2023 Mining Law. While the decision could benefit mining companies, which have expressed concerns about how the reform affects their existing projects and permits, the future of the mining industry remains uncertain.

Guanajuato Silver Signs New Third-Party Processing Agreement 

Canada-based precious metals company Guanajuato Silver announced it entered into a new gold and silver processing agreement with REM Marfil to process mineralized material from the La Providencia mine project at Guanajuato Silver's El Cubo and Cata processing facilities. The initial phase of the agreement covers the processing of 80,000 dry tons of mineralized material, sourced from historical mining facilities.
